Why is writing a compulsory course?

Words: When it comes to writing, do you think of literature? Think of mysterious things such as literary talent and writing?

In fact, this is a misunderstanding of China's writing.

Literary creation is only a category in writing. A person can not learn literary creation all his life, but Ta must learn to write. A person with higher education may not like or be good at literary creation, but Ta must be good at writing. Because writing is the foundation, the tool and the basic ability that everyone needs.

Writing is the only required course for all students in Harvard University. A Writing Outline made by 1872 is still a must-read guide for Harvard freshmen. Why? Because the school believes that whether you are a native English student or a native English student, you need to learn to write. Whether you study literature or science, whether you want to be a doctor, a teacher, a businessman or a politician in the future, you need to learn to write. Without exception.

Not only Harvard, but almost all American universities we can name offer this compulsory course. Americans attach great importance to writing. This is in stark contrast to the embarrassing position of writing in China: for China students (knocking on the blackboard), writing is an exam composition full of routines and lies, and I can't wait to write it off; For adults, writing is a sour and boring hobby of a few young people. In short, it has nothing to do with me.

We must get out of this misunderstanding as soon as possible.

Writing is a basic ability and a professional tool.

What is writing? Pea has always believed that any definition does not need to be melodramatic. The essence of writing is nothing more than two points: one is to use words as a means; Second, for the purpose of transmitting information.

Writing is a way to convey information through words. For example, when we write an email, we are transmitting information across space. When we record and save files, we are transmitting information across time.

If you understand the essence of words, you will understand that people living in the civilized world cannot be separated from words and cannot transmit information. Therefore, writing is ubiquitous, lifelong and a basic ability of human beings.

Besides, writing is an important professional tool. Entrepreneurs should write business plans, scientists should write experimental reports, politicians should write speeches, and elites in the workplace should write work plans, summaries and debriefing reports? No matter how tall your career is, or how ordinary it is, it is inseparable from the professional tool of writing.

The dessert shop on the street has launched a new product, and the beauty boss will put up a promotional poster on the glass window, which is full of colorful words. What should I write? Write down the healthy ingredients used in this new product, how elaborate the production process is, and how magical and special the taste is ―― only in this way can we attract more customers to buy this new product.

The residential property management company repaired the burst water pipe and repaired the cracked ground. The staff of the property management company will post notices in the elevator room, explaining the reasons, process and effect of maintenance, and whether the maintenance fund has been used. , and please inform all owners.

In life, such words can be found everywhere.

Think back, how many times have you been embarrassed by typos, unreadable sentences and chaotic logic?

How many times have you lost your temper because the newly recruited college students can't write a clear notice and a complete summary?

Or, have you ever wronged yourself that you have done a lot of solid work, but you have not received enough attention because you are not good at writing summaries?

Learning to write is to skillfully use words to express your meaning accurately, clearly and completely, that is, to output information effectively. If people are compared to a computer, then with this output, the previous input and operation are meaningful.

People who can't convey information effectively will probably not be understood and valued. Because Ta is like a computer with output failure, it is always stuck.

Writing is a kind of thinking training and liberal arts education.

As a basic ability and professional tool, writing is very important to each of us. But this is not the reason why Harvard University regards writing as the only compulsory course.

Famous schools like Harvard and Yale have a higher pursuit, which is to cultivate people with critical thinking. Writing is the best thinking training and the basic element of liberal arts education (also known as "humanistic education").

Writing as thinking training is neither functional writing (such as writing official documents and advertisements) nor creative writing (such as writing novels and poems), but an "expository writing". Literally, it means "expository writing" ―― however, this expository writing has a completely different meaning from "expository writing" in Chinese ―― if you want to find a similar word in Chinese, it should be "expository writing".

How to write a thesis?

First of all, on a broad topic (such as ethics in commercial society), a specific question (such as whether organs can be legally sold in the market) is raised. Then, in view of this problem, clarify your own point of view. Then, put forward several sub-arguments that can strongly support the general argument and demonstrate them one by one with sufficient arguments. Finally, summarize and state your own views and answer the initial questions.

Obviously, discussing the writing process of essays is to train people how to think and reason.

This kind of training helps to cultivate students' rational spirit, develop students' critical thinking and help students think clearly, accurately and concisely. After this kind of training, people tend to treat problems seriously and rigorously, rather than drawing arbitrary conclusions.

So, is this composition the same as the argumentative essay written by China students in the exam? No. They look similar, but they are essentially opposite. Because the main concern of examination-oriented argumentative essays is whether the ideas are novel, rather than whether the questions can be raised correctly; Pay attention to whether rhetoric is gorgeous, not whether language is concise; Pay attention to which famous sayings are quoted, and don't pay attention to which views are expressed; Pay attention to whether reasoning is magnificent and infectious, but not to whether argumentation is rigorous, powerful and logical.

Emily Ulrich, a writing teacher at Yale University, has instructed many foreign students in China during her teaching. In an exclusive interview with China media, she pointed out the bug of Chinese writing:

China students seem to be desperately looking for more ways to express the same idea. They use many complicated words and write long and poetic sentences. In the eyes of Americans, this is equivalent to saying: Ignore my thoughts and watch my flowery words.

This is not surprising, because students in China have been learning to write since they were young. They have no chance to receive liberal arts education with independent personality and critical thinking as the educational purpose.

In a word, writing, as a basic ability and professional tool, cannot be separated from us; As thinking training and liberal arts education writing, we urgently need it. That is the reality.

Therefore, writing is a compulsory course, and it is a compulsory course in the "compulsory course". It should be the basis and premise of all other courses together with reading class.

In paying attention to writing, we should really learn from "more authentic" Americans. The writing outline of Harvard University has been popular in Europe and America for 30 years, which once set off a writing revolution in Europe and America.

In 2005, Pea Chinese Education Institute began to explore the international leading thinking writing method. Pea Chinese thinking writing method is a writing skill derived from Harvard University's writing outline. Pea Chinese is based on the composition teaching system prevailing in North America, and is compiled according to composition teaching materials, doctrines and related materials. Pea Chinese thinking writing method takes thinking training as the core, and uses three thinking nuclear weapons: brain explosion, mind mapping and pyramid principle to solve composition problems efficiently, aiming at helping domestic primary school students train their writing thinking and master the basic methods and skills of various composition writing. With its help, you don't have to worry about your child's composition anymore!

Pea Chinese teaching and research institute knows that the most precious cost of education is children's time. Therefore, Pea Chinese should help children improve their writing ability quickly in happy learning, and complete the teaching of writing skills and methods in junior high school in one year, so that children can get rid of the long synchronous writing training and master the international leading thinking and writing methods, so that children can benefit for life. Pea Chinese settled in Changchun 20 15. After two years' development, it now has four direct-operated teaching bases and several cooperative branches with more than 2,400 students.

At the end of 20 16, 537 pea students got full marks in their compositions.

At the end of 20 17, 866 pea students ranked first in the class!

These achievements have witnessed the power of methodological composition!
