II. Introduction to Tarim University
Tarim University, formerly known as Tarim Agricultural Reclamation University, is located in Aral City, on the Tarim River in southern Xinjiang. It was founded in 1958 under the advocacy and care of General Wang Zhen, the former Vice President of the State, in order to meet the needs of the national frontier defense and the development of Tarim reclamation area for all kinds of talents. He served as honorary president all his life. The school is the first batch of undergraduate colleges with the right to award bachelor's degrees approved by the State Council Academic Degrees Committee. In 23, it was granted the right to award master's degrees. In May 24, it was approved by the Ministry of Education and renamed as Tarim University. In 217, it became a "model university for deepening innovation and entrepreneurship education reform of the Ministry of Education". It was originally a university directly under the Ministry of Agriculture and now belongs to Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps.
in the course of running a school for nearly 6 years, the school has carried forward Nanniwan's fine tradition and anti-aggression style, formed an excellent school spirit of "hard work, national unity, seeking truth and being pragmatic, and striving for strength", cultivated Populus euphratica spirit with "hard work, rooting in the frontier, self-improvement and dedication" as its main connotation, and established the spirit of "building a school with quality, developing a school with characteristics and strengthening a school with talents" The development idea of "writing articles in Tarim, creating regional advantages and building a comprehensive university" has been clarified, and the research characteristics of "biodiversity and cultural diversity around Tarim" have been formed, which shows the distinctive school-running characteristics of "educating people with Populus euphratica spirit and serving the prosperity of Xinjiang" and has embarked on a distinctive, leap-forward and sustainable road of school revitalization and development.
The school has now developed into a comprehensive university with agriculture, science, engineering, literature, management, law, economics, education, art, history and other disciplines developing in a coordinated way. The campus covers an area of 2,554 mu, with a building area of 57, square meters. At present, there are 715 full-time teachers, 434 professors and associate professors, and 648 teachers with doctoral and master's degrees, accounting for full-time teachers. The library has a collection of 1.34 million volumes, and the edited and published Journal of Tarim University is publicly distributed at home and abroad.
The school has 11 colleges (College of Plant Science, College of Animal Science, College of Water Conservancy and Architectural Engineering, College of Mechanical Electrification Engineering, College of Humanities, school of economics and management, College of Life Sciences, College of Information Engineering, College of History and Philosophy, College of Continuing Education and Higher Vocational and Technical College) and 57 undergraduate majors (16 in agriculture and science, 22 in engineering and 19 in humanities and social sciences). Four key disciplines at autonomous region level (biology, horticulture, crop science and veterinary medicine), eight master's degree programs in first-class disciplines (crop science, horticulture, biology, agricultural engineering, animal husbandry, Marxist theory, chemical engineering and technology, agricultural and forestry economic management), and five master's degree programs in specialty (agriculture, veterinary medicine, news and communication, education and engineering). At present, there is a national scientific research platform ("National and Local Joint Engineering Laboratory for Efficient and High-quality Cultivation and Deep Processing Technology of Fruit Trees with Characteristics in Southern Xinjiang"), a national key laboratory cultivation base built by Corps and Ministry of Science and Technology (key laboratory for biological resources protection and utilization in Tarim Basin-cultivation base built by Ministry of National Province), and six provincial key laboratories (Xinjiang Key Laboratory for Animal Husbandry Science and Technology, Southern Xinjiang Special Fruit Tree Production Engineering Laboratory, Key Laboratory of Deep Processing Corps of Agricultural Products with Southern Xinjiang Characteristics, Key Laboratory of Modern Agricultural Engineering at Autonomous Region Level, Engineering Laboratory of Chemical Resources Utilization in Southern Xinjiang of Xinjiang Corps, International Cooperation Base of Ecological Protection and Biological Resources Utilization in Tarim Basin), and two provincial-level key research bases of humanities and social sciences (key research bases of humanities and social sciences in autonomous region-Institute of Non-traditional Security and Frontier Ethnic Development, Western Region Cultural Research Institute), Three experimental stations of the Ministry of Agriculture (agricultural product quality and safety risk assessment experimental station of the Ministry of Agriculture, scientific observation experimental station of agricultural microbial resources utilization in the northwest region of the Ministry of Agriculture, and scientific observation experimental station of crop pests in Aral of the Ministry of Agriculture), and two corps collaborative innovation (cultivation) centers (collaborative innovation center for western culture and silk road civilization, collaborative innovation center for ecological agriculture around Tarim). In the past five years, it has undertaken 1,133 scientific research projects at all levels, with a total funding of 251 million yuan. 521 scientific research achievements, 498 patents granted, 19 standards formulated and 3 new plant varieties made positive contributions to regional economic and social development.
since its establishment, the school has trained more than 6, graduates for the country, 85% of whom are employed in Xinjiang, 68.5% are rooted in southern Xinjiang, and more than 52% of mainland students have stayed in Xinjiang to work. Graduates are all over southern Xinjiang, and the party and government organs, grass-roots units and pastoral areas in all divisions and regiments of the Corps have excellent qualities of political reliability, strong practical ability and hard work. Employers generally evaluate that "getting down, staying, using and doing well" has made outstanding contributions to the economic development, social progress, political stability, national unity and grass-roots political power building of the autonomous region and the Corps, especially in southern Xinjiang. The school has become an important base for training high-level talents in Xinjiang and the cradle of cadres in southern Xinjiang. According to statistics released by the Personnel Department and the Education Department of the autonomous region, the employment rate of graduates of our school has been in the forefront of universities in the autonomous region for 1 consecutive years. In September 27, the school achieved excellent results in the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level of the Ministry of Education.
The school has strengthened cooperation and academic exchanges with universities and research institutes at home and abroad in scientific research and personnel training, especially China Agricultural University, Zhejiang University, Huazhong Agricultural University, beijing university of chemical technology and Donghua University. It has established close cooperative relations with Northwest A&F University, Northeast Agricultural University, Lanzhou University, Wuhan University, Nanjing Agricultural University and other universities, and established all-round substantive cooperation with China Academy of Agricultural Sciences. In terms of international exchange and cooperation, it has established exchange and cooperation relations with more than 2 foreign universities, including the University of Western Australia, University of London, Washington State University, providence university, and Kazakhstan National Agricultural University. At the same time, it is in close contact with all the divisions and farms in southern Xinjiang, taking the road of combining production, learning and research, and actively carrying out science and technology services to help the poor. The school has sent more than 3 science and technology deputy counties (regiments) to work in local and farms. Teachers and students have carried out scientific and technological consultation, training and technology popularization, and trained more than 6, people of all kinds.
