1952, Shanxi Machinery Manufacturing Industrial School, the predecessor of Taiyuan University of Science and Technology, was formally established. Mr. Zhi, an outstanding mechanical engineering expert in modern China and then the chief engineer of Taiyuan Heavy Machinery Factory, served as the first president. 1953, the school was placed under the Central Ministry of Machinery Industry. 1955 Changchun Automobile School merged with teachers and students majoring in forging technology in Hankou. 1960, the school was upgraded and renamed Taiyuan Institute of Heavy Machinery, becoming the first undergraduate college of heavy machinery established in New China. 1965, Dalian university of technology and Shenyang institute of mechanical and electrical engineering merged into the whole system of teachers and students majoring in lifting and transportation machinery. 198 1, the school began to train graduate students. 1983 became the second batch of universities in China to award master's degrees. 1998, the school was changed to the Ministry of Education and Shanxi Province to establish a * * * management system, with Shanxi Province as the main management. In 2004, the school was renamed Taiyuan University of Science and Technology. In the same year, Shanxi Chemical Industry School merged. In 2005, it became a doctoral degree awarding unit. In 2006, the evaluation of undergraduate teaching level was rated as excellent by the Ministry of Education.
After more than 60 years of unremitting efforts, today's Taiyuan University of Science and Technology has developed into a teaching and research university with engineering as the main subject, distinctive features of the mainstream discipline of equipment manufacturing, nine disciplines of science, engineering, economics, management, literature, law, philosophy, teaching and art supporting each other, and a reasonable connection of multi-level education for doctors, masters and bachelors.
