Ali patent center

On September 18, Alibaba announced that Chen Ying, the former chief engineer of Qualcomm, the leader of international video standards in China, and Tan Ping, a tenured associate professor of Simon Fraser University in SFU, had joined Ali Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (hereinafter referred to as AI Labs).

It is understood that the annual salary of these two scientists has reached one million dollars.

Chen Ying is the chief engineer of Qualcomm, a famous American chip company. During his stay in Qualcomm, he led the formulation of MPEG international video coding standards H264( 1080P) and H265(4K Blu-ray). He has 250 patents granted by the United States and is the first Chinese to win the "Intellectual Property Achievement Award" in Qualcomm.

After joining Ali AI Labs, he will be the chief scientist of artificial intelligence and edge computing, focusing on overcoming the visual technology of home intelligent terminals, lowering the threshold of visual chips of the Internet of Things, and creating more home technology products available to everyone.

Tan Ping is a tenured associate professor at SFU Simon Fraser University. His research field is realistic three-dimensional reconstruction (SfM) technology, which can automatically model objects through photos of real objects. Invited to be the chairman of CVPR, deputy editor-in-chief of SIGGRAPH and IROS, the top international academic conference, he is a benchmark figure in the field of 3D vision.

After joining Ali AI Labs, Tan Ping served as the chief scientist of computer vision, focusing on three-dimensional modeling and holographic technology research and development, establishing a three-dimensional digital version of the real world and creating a realistic virtual world. In the future, people can travel around the world without leaving home in the virtual world through holographic technology.
