The Asian Highway Network consists of highway routes of international importance in Asia, including highway routes that greatly span more than one subregion, such as East Asia and Northeast Asia, South Asia and Southwest Asia, Southeast Asia, North Asia and Central Asia.
The line number begins with "ah", which means "Asian Highway", followed by one, two or three digits. One-digit line numbers from 1 to 9 are assigned to Asian highway lines that greatly span more than one sub-region; Two-digit and three-digit route numbers are used to indicate routes within sub-regions, including highway routes connecting neighboring sub-regions and the territories of member States.
