Earlier, Jony Ive, Apple's vice president of design, said in an interview with the Financial Times that Apple invented a new ultra-hard 18K gold material, which can effectively solve the durability problem of watches. The author of the Financial Times also speculated on its description, claiming that "Apple uses new technology to combine gold molecules more closely to achieve high hardness", but this view was later overturned by the editor of Ars Technica.
In fact, through the industrial design patent applied by Apple, we can see that Apple uses a special gold production process, which involves mixing gold powder and ceramic powder, and then heating and compressing them to form a harder and more scratch-resistant material than ordinary gold. However, "ceramics" is just a vague term.
