On March 20 13, Geely and Volvo reached a technology transfer agreement. In August of the same year, Volvo, like Geely, transferred three technologies including GMC platform. With the help of this GMC platform, Geely developed and launched the "most beautiful domestic car" Borui, which became famous in the future. Since then, Geely has officially embarked on its own quality road.
Technology transfer is not a long-term solution, and the acquisition of Volvo is Geely Holding Group. Therefore, after the acquisition, Volvo Car and Geely Automobile are actually brother companies, not superior and subordinate. This situation is not conducive to Geely's absorption of Volvo's technology. To make full use of Volvo's technology, it is necessary to deepen the route of cooperative development. In Lexus cars, Volvo holds 30% of the shares through technology. In fact, Geely and Volvo had already started to cooperate before taking over. Prior to this, the two parties had established the Joint R&D Center (CEVT) in Sweden in September 20 13. On the basis of this joint R&D center, the two sides jointly developed the CMA platform. By the time Lectra was founded, this CMA platform had become one of the largest technical capitals of Volvo. So far, lectra has been able to adopt a lot of Volvo technology. For example, the two 1.5T and 2.0T engines on Lectra and many technologies including active safety configuration are basically Volvo's.
But by this time, Geely Automobile has not really adopted Volvo's technology on a large scale, but another joint venture company was established almost at the same time with Lectra. The name of this joint venture company is Ningbo Time-Space Equation Technology Co., Ltd., and Geely and Volvo each hold 50% shares. The purpose of this company is clear, that is, Geely and Volvo can enjoy technology through technology licensing. Because of the existence of this company, Geely's full use of Volvo technology has not been hindered.
So now we can see that Geely has actually used Volvo technology in many places, including CMA platform, 1.5T and 2.0T engines of Volvo technology on Xingyue, 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, active safety technology and so on, so now it can be said that Geely has adopted Volvo technology in all directions.
