DRIVE PILOT driving pilot system Mercedes-Benz realizes L3 automatic driving landing.

Car change news? In the era of more and more intelligent cars, in addition to the computing power of chips and the interconnection between cars and machines, autonomous driving may already be the hottest technological breakthrough. With the manufacturers' pursuit of autonomous driving technology, Mercedes-Benz, as the "creator" of automobiles, has achieved the world's first L3-class autonomous driving on Mercedes-Benz S-Class and EQS.

In this regard, Matthias Kaiser, a senior engineer of Mercedes-Benz DRIVE Pilot, also interpreted the contents of DRIVE Pilot at the "Star Creation" event held at Stuttgart headquarters.

Autopilot * * * is divided into L0 ~ L5, of which L0 ~ L2 is only "assisted driving". Now L2 level is also the standard setting of major brands, and vehicles will drive under the supervision of drivers. L3 is the so-called conditional automation stage. The system involves all aspects of driving, and the driver only intervenes when necessary.

Regarding the landing of DRIVE Pilot system, Matthias Kaiser, a senior engineer of Mercedes-Benz Drive Pilot system, also said that safety is an issue that the team attaches great importance to in the research and development process, and everything must comply with local laws and regulations. At present, the technology has only been opened in Germany, and will be launched in other markets such as China and the United States at the right time in the future.

In today's China market, domestic car companies are pushing L2-level assisted driving function, and it will take some time to realize L3-level automatic driving. However, as Mercedes-Benz L3 autopilot technology will be deployed in more countries in the future, Matthias Kaiser also said that the realization of DRIVE Pilot needs to strictly use geographical areas and conditions.

"DRIVE Pilot must be in a relatively" simple "high-speed road condition, allowing a specific speed of up to 60km/h, while realizing high-definition map lines, requiring sensors to clearly identify lane markings, so that DRIVE Pilot can truly provide L3-level automatic driving functions for drivers."

It is understood that the Drive Pilot system of Mercedes-Benz has been put into use under the busy road traffic conditions on the expressways of 13 19 1 km all over Germany. The vehicle will perceive the surrounding conditions through the radar, lidar and camera carried by the system, as well as ultrasonic and humidity sensors, and provide the data of road conditions to the "brain" of the vehicle, and respond according to the surrounding conditions to control the speed, braking and lane position. ?

At the same time, in addition to the complementarity and redundancy between cameras, some key hardware systems have to be redundant in the car, because this is a highly automated stage. Therefore, Mercedes-Benz has also strengthened safety measures, such as steering system, electronic control system and even batteries. Redundant space is designed to cope with the complex conditions that the driver system will face, and is equipped with redundant structures to prevent failures.

Of course, when the system recognizes special circumstances, the Drive Pilot system will ask the driver to take over the vehicle at the first time. If there is no response within 10 seconds, the system will move the vehicle to a safe area and stop.

In addition to the above realization conditions, the Drive Pilot system can only be used in new cars, and the old models cannot be upgraded in software and hardware. At the same time, the Drive Pilot System (L3 autopilot System) is optional for Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Mercedes-Benz EQS models currently sold in the German market, and the optional cost is 5,000 euros (about RMB 35 155 yuan) and 7,430 euros (about RMB 5,2241yuan) respectively.

In fact, for L3-level autopilot, besides the convenience of driving, its doubts have never stopped. Many people even think that autonomous driving is a gimmick and there will be great security risks. Nowadays, L3 autopilot led by Mercedes-Benz has gradually come into reality. not yet

What changes will the new L3 autopilot bring? Looking forward to its performance after landing in the domestic market.

? Interview record:

Moderator: At our headquarters in Stuttgart, welcome everyone to participate in today's special "Star Creation" activity and have a face-to-face exchange with Matthias Kaiser, a senior engineer of Mercedes-Benz DRIVE Pilot.

Mathias Kaiser: On behalf of the German R&D department of Mercedes-Benz and my colleagues in China, I would like to welcome all media friends to attend today's "Star Making" technical class! I am a senior engineer of Mercedes-Benz, mainly responsible for driving? The research and development of intelligent driving technology such as pilot driving and navigation system covers engineering design, testing, data analysis and the popularization and application of related systems around the world.

Are you going for a drive today? The pilot driving navigation system communicates with you, which is divided into the following links. First of all, introduce DRIVE? Before Pilot drives the pilot system, let's talk about the evolution of autopilot from L2 to L3, which also represents the change of autopilot level. So, will I be interested in driving? Make a comprehensive introduction to the driver driving system. Third, in order to be able to drive? The function of the pilot's navigation system is very clear. I will also introduce DRIVE? Application of sensor technology in driver's driving and navigation system.

The well-known Mercedes-Benz S-Class sedan has set a new benchmark in leading technology and luxury comfort. The driver assistance system of S-class car can be summarized into two parts: comfort and safety. Comfort-related functions, such as intelligent navigation distance limit function (active? Distance? Auxiliary? DISTRONIC) and so on. It can bring a luxurious and comfortable travel experience to the owner. In terms of safety-related functions and systems, a very important function is to prevent vehicles from colliding with other road users (including pedestrians, bicycles and other vehicles), just like fire hazards. We hope that the preparatory measures will never have to work, but we should be prepared.

In the near future, the evolution from L2 intelligent driving assistance to L3 automatic driving will take place on a global scale. Here, I want to emphasize once again that the S-class sedan is the first to be equipped with the world's first internationally certified L3 conditional autopilot system.

Comparing L2-level intelligent driving assistance with L3-level automatic driving, the biggest difference between them is that in L2-level era, drivers need to always pay attention to system operation; In L3 era, under certain conditions, the system can take over the driving task, so the driver can relax-of course, be prepared to take over the vehicle in time according to the system requirements. In order to realize autonomous driving and improve the degree of automation, we have done a lot of research on technology and human behavior, the latter including human understanding of autonomous driving conditions.

We're designing drivers? When the Pilot drives the pilot system, an important principle is to establish an operable design domain (Operational? Design Domain (ODD for short), that is to say, it is necessary to define the conditions under which autonomous driving technology can work. Do we have a complete team building and polishing drive? Pilot driving navigation system, through automatic driving technology, returns the time to the driver and provides the top-level safe and comfortable driving experience. For example, I used to drive an S-class car? PLIOT drives the navigation system and then uses this time to play games. Thanks to driving? Pilots drive the navigation system. We can massage, send messages, chat with friends and so on. I even drove an S-class car for an interview last week. Imagine driving in a congested road? The pilot drives the pilot system. What else can we do? In a word, we returned our precious time to the driver.

When do you drive? When the pilot's driving and navigation system is activated, in addition to the special display on the dashboard, there are also control buttons on the left and right thumb positions inside the steering wheel. Key indicator light shows white as drive? The pilot pilot system can be activated. At this point, the driver only needs to press the button to start driving? When the pilot drives the navigation system, the key indicator immediately turns blue-green. We have done a lot of research on color to find out which color is most reminiscent of autonomous driving. Finally, we chose the blue-green indicator light to indicate driving. & lta class = " hidden " href = "/bentian Pilot-5969/" title = " Pilot " data-key type = " Serial
