Bing Dun Dun (English: Bing Dwen Dwen, Chinese Pinyin: Bing Dun Dun) is the mascot of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Combining the panda image with the super ice crystal shell, the head shell shape is taken from the ice and snow sports helmet, decorated with colorful halo, and the overall image looks like an astronaut.
On August 8, 20 18, the launching ceremony of the global collection of mascots for the Beijing Winter Olympics and Paralympic Winter Games was held. On the evening of September 20 17 19, the ice pier was officially unveiled.
Ice pier symbolizes creating extraordinary and exploring the future, and embodies the infinite possibility of pursuing Excellence, leading the times and facing the future.
Symbolic meaning:
"Ice" symbolizes purity and strength, which is the characteristic of the Winter Olympics. "Dundun" means honesty, stockiness and loveliness, which conforms to the overall image of panda and symbolizes the strong physique, tenacious will and inspiring Olympic spirit of Winter Olympics athletes.
The combination of panda image of ice shield and ice crystal shell combines cultural elements with ice and snow movement, endowing it with new cultural attributes and characteristics, which embodies the characteristics of ice and snow movement in winter. Panda is recognized as the national treasure of China in the world, and its image is friendly, lovely and naive. This design can not only represent China, which is hosting the Winter Olympics, but also represent the Winter Olympics with China flavor. The colorful halo of the head was inspired by the "Ice Ribbon" of Beijing National Speed Skating Hall. Line flow symbolizes ice and snow sports and 5G high-tech track. The shape of the head shell is taken from the snow sports helmet. Panda looks like an astronaut as a whole, and is an expert in ice and snow sports from the future, which symbolizes the combination of modern technology and ice and snow sports.
Ice pier abandons traditional elements and is full of futuristic, contemporary and speed sense.
Laws and regulations:
The exclusive right of the ice pier belongs to the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee. The cartoon image of Ice Shield constitutes an art work, which is protected by the copyright law and restricted by Article 24 of the copyright law on the fair use of works. The production and sale of pirated products around Bingdundun belongs to "unauthorized copying and use of Olympic symbols and Olympic-related works", which violates the Regulations on the Protection of Olympic Symbols, the Regulations on the Administration of Special Signs, the Trademark Law of People's Republic of China (PRC), the Patent Law of People's Republic of China (PRC), the Advertising Law of People's Republic of China (PRC) and the Anti-Unfair Competition Law of People's Republic of China (PRC).
Usage scenario:
Unless otherwise stipulated by laws and regulations, no unit or individual may use the image and name of the mascot, including the development, dissemination and sale of related derivatives expressing the work, without the permission of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee. The image and name of the mascot shall not be divided, distorted, tampered with or used as part of other patterns. Those who use the mascot image and name according to law shall abide by the relevant technical standards and norms formulated by the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee.
With the permission of the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee, the ice pier can be used for non-commercial purposes by non-profit legal persons or organizations such as government agencies, grassroots mass autonomous organizations and institutions. Participants in non-commercial activities shall not engage in any form of commercial publicity by participating in non-commercial activities, except sponsors at all levels of the International Olympic Committee, the International Paralympic Committee and the Beijing Winter Olympics Organizing Committee. If the news media reprint or quote the ice shield in newspapers, periodicals, radio stations, television stations, the Internet and other publicity reports, it is not necessary to go through the licensing procedures according to law. If the use behavior conforms to the use for personal appreciation, such as weaving patterns on personal items such as scarves and gloves for personal use only, it does not constitute infringement.
The determination of copyright infringement is not based on whether the use behavior has commercial profit purpose, especially in the case of spreading works through the network. Therefore, if the images of "Ice Shield" and "Edelweiss" are made into patterns similar to expression packs and spread on the Internet without the permission of the Organizing Committee, even if there is no charge involved, it is also an infringement.
