Coal to olefins

The only coal-to-olefins project approved by the National Development and Reform Commission is the Shenhua coal-to-olefins project. Sinopec Yanshan Petrochemical Company owns a set of MTO 10,000-ton industrial demonstration equipment. Datang has a method of synthesizing olefins from methanol in Duolun, Inner Mongolia. It's under construction, but I'm not sure about the details.

1. The project with an annual output of 1.5 million tons of methanol and its supporting projects is located in Huojia County, Xinxiang City, Henan Province. It is jointly constructed by Hong Kong Huirong International Financial Investment Group and Henan Rongxin Industrial Co., Ltd., with a designed annual output of 1.5 million tons of methanol, 480,000 tons of polypropylene and 330,000 tons of gasoline, with a total investment of 19.2 billion yuan.

This project is the first phase of the project, covering an area of ??800 acres, using Shell dry coal gasification technology, with an annual output of 500,000 tons of methanol.

The total project investment is 2.06952 billion yuan.

2. Guanghui Co., Ltd. has launched a 600,000-ton olefins project with a planned total investment of 12.9 billion yuan. Construction started in April this year and is expected to be completed in April 2011. Guanghui Co., Ltd. has launched an olefins project with an annual output of 600,000 tons in Kuqa, Xinjiang. This energy-saving and environmentally friendly project is strongly supported by national industrial policies. The process design of gas-based and coal-based projects can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 400,000 tons per year. The project utilizes 800 million cubic meters of natural gas per year provided by PetroChina and 600-800 million tons of coal resources provided by Kuqa County. After the project is fully completed and reaches production, it is expected that the average annual sales revenue will be 6.904 billion yuan and the average annual total profit will be 2.931 billion yuan. At present, preliminary work is proceeding smoothly.

Currently, the only MTO device under construction in China is the one in Shenhua Baotou, which is expected to be put into production in 2010. Two small-scale demonstration units have been put into operation, one in Yulin and one in Yanshan Petrochemical.

The only fixed-bed MTP device under construction in China is Datang's, which is expected to be put into production in 2009.

The only 30,000-ton fluidized bed MTP demonstration device (global patented technology) under construction in China is the China National Chemical Engineering Corporation, and it is expected to be put into operation in 2008.

All other reported coal-to-olefin units are in the feasibility study stage and have not been approved by the Chinese government. It is absolutely impossible for the government to approve them. They are just planning projects.

Projects in the feasibility study demonstration stage cannot be counted as projects under construction or planned, they are all fantasy projects. If that counts, I alone can name more than 10 million-ton projects.

The Shenhua Baotou coal-to-olefins project was approved by the National Development and Reform Commission in December 2006, with a total investment of 16.5 billion yuan. It is the only coal-to-olefins project approved by the state so far. Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has allocated 1.25 billion tons of coal resources for this project. This project is designed to consume 5 million tons of coal annually and produce 750,000 tons of petrochemical products such as polyethylene and polypropylene annually. Based on the current market price of coal and polyolefin products, the complete cost of a ton of polyolefin is about 6,000 yuan. The factory can achieve annual sales revenue of 8 billion yuan and profit of 4 billion yuan. Project construction scale: 1.8 million tons/year coal-to-methanol, 600,000 tons/year methanol-to-olefins, 300,000 tons/year polyethylene, 300,000 tons/year polypropylene, 4 sets of 60,000 cubic meters/hour air separation oxygen production , 3 sets of thermal power stations with an evaporation capacity of 480 tons/hour, as well as auxiliary production facilities and public works, etc. The core technology adopts domestic independent intellectual property rights of methanol-to-olefins technology. Other major process devices adopt the world's advanced coal chemical/petrochemical technology, including GE coal water slurry gasification technology, German Linde Company's low-temperature methanol washing technology, and British DAVY Company. Methanol synthesis technology, American DOW Company polypropylene technology, American UNIVATION Company polyethylene technology, etc. At present, the overall design and basic design of the factory have been completed, and the detailed design work is being carried out one after another. The factory construction work is in full swing. It is planned to complete the mechanical completion in 2009 and put the factory into operation in 2010.

There are currently only three companies under construction in China, including Ningxia Coal Group’s 520,000 tons of propylene (MTP), Datang Power’s 420,000 tons of propylene (can’t remember the scale, please verify the MTP) and Shenhua Baotou MTO (600,000 tons of olefins, half of which are ethylene and half propylene)

It is said that there are also Xinjiang Guanghui and Luneng Power Heilongjiang projects, but they have not been approved! Tsinghua University's MTP fluidized bed propylene production technology is undergoing pilot experiments at Huaihua Group in Anhui!

Currently, MTO/P does not have a set of industrial equipment. Taking Datang’s LURGI MTP as an example, many of them directly amplify laboratory data.

It’s dangerous

The main MTO/MTP projects to be implemented are:

Anhui Huaihua Group’s coal-to-coal-to-methanol and olefin conversion project of 1.7 million tons

Yankuang Shaanxi Yulin 800,000 tons/year coal-based olefins project

Shaanxi Xinxing coal olefins 1 million tons/year coal-based olefins project

Shaanxi Binchang 600,000 tons/year methanol-to-olefins project< /p>

China Coal Group Jixi 600,000 tons/year olefins project

Xinjiang Guanghui 600,000 tons/year coal-based olefins project

These projects have not yet been formally approved , there are currently only three officially approved and under construction:

Ningmei Coal Group’s 520,000 tons/year methanol-to-propylene (MTP) project

Datang Electric Power’s 470,000 tons/year methanol-to-propylene project Propylene (MTP)

Shenhua Baotou’s 600,000 tons/year methanol-to-olefins (MTO) project
