Porsche
Most people know Porsche for its traditional flat-six engines used in the 911 series, but the automaker from Stuttgart has many of its best Power system. Take the V10-powered Carrera GT, for example. This screaming 5.7-liter naturally aspirated V10 engine can output more than 600 horsepower and 435 pound-feet of torque.
When we get back to Porsche's flat-six engines, things actually look less radical, but power-wise, they're still crazy. The new 992-generation 911 GT3 RS has a naturally aspirated 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine with 518 horsepower, and the 911 Turbo S has a twin-turbo flat-six engine with 640 horsepower.
BMW
Whenever people think of BMW, two engine types usually come to mind - an inline six-cylinder engine and a twin-turbocharged engine. While these are the current front-runners for models like the BMW M5 CS, M3 and M4 (as well as the Toyota Supra), the Bavarian automaker has some truly unique engines. In the case of the McLaren F1, BMW built a record-breaking 618-horsepower 6.0-liter V12 called the BMW S70/2.
Mercedes-Benz AMG
Like BMW, Mercedes-Benz also lends its powertrains to many other brands. Sure, they have some popular products, like the 6.2-liter V8 in the W204 Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG, but they also make the CLK GTR and the V12 used by Pagani in supercars like the Zonda.
Today, they supply turbocharged four-cylinder inline engines and V8 engines to Lotus and Aston Martin. But the most important thing is the 1.6-liter hybrid V6 engine in the AMG One.
Ferrari
Ferrari is often called the best exotic car brand, producing some of the most iconic engines. From naturally aspirated engines to those using forced induction and hybrid technology. From V8 to V12 to V6, Ferrari really has it all.
Their most distinguished cars include the 458 Speciale, SF90, 296 GTB, 812 Superfast, Enzo, LaFerrari and Testarossa. However, there is more. Due to their huge success, other brands such as Maserati and Alfa Romeo also took advantage of Ferrari's engineering talents.
Volkswagen Group
The Volkswagen Group owns so many brands that some dazzling engines have become a reality. In fact, some engines you've never heard of are products of the Volkswagen Group.
The naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V10 engine in the Audi R8 and Lamborghini. The twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 found in the Lamborghini Urus, Audi RS Q8 and Porsche Cayenne GT. There's also the 2.5-liter inline five-cylinder engine from the Audi TT RS and RS3. With the exception of the Lamborghini V12 and some other older proprietary engines, almost all of the above-mentioned brands' most iconic engines owe their existence to the collective wisdom of the Volkswagen Group.
Ford
In addition to the classic V8 engine, Ford also manufactures some revolutionary power systems. Of course, they stuck to their heritage and still built the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 for the Mustang GT, but they gave the Shelby Mustang GT 500 a slightly modified version. Under the hood of the Shelby GT 500 is a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 called the Predator with 760 horsepower and 625 pound-feet of torque.
In addition, Ford also used modern technology to turbocharge the V6 engine. The result is the famous EcoBoost engine.
GM
GM still produces a small number of ferocious V8 engines, such as the LS crate series. There's also the 6.2-liter naturally aspirated LT2 V8 engine in the Corvette C8 and the 5.5-liter naturally aspirated LT6 V8 engine used in the Z06. The LT2 is a cross-crank V8 with nearly 500 horsepower, while the LT6 is a flat-plane crank V8 with up to 670 horsepower.
Dodge
Just like GM and Ford, Dodge also makes some V8 engines that find their way into some muscle cars. In fact, Dodge is so good that today their top performance cars, the Challenger and Charger, still stick to the same formula.
While the Challenger and Charger do come with naturally aspirated engines, the standout is the 6.2-liter supercharged HEMI V8 that produces an astonishing amount of power. Additionally, Dodge also makes a powerful V10 engine called the Viper V10. As its name suggests, the naturally aspirated V10 has been featured in all different Viper generations, and it's even found its way into the Dodge Ram SRT-10 pickup truck.
Nissan
In addition to regular commuter vehicles, Nissan also has some incredible performance cars like the GT-R and Z series.
For some reason, Nissan has an unhealthy obsession with six-cylinder engines. The first-ever Skyline GT-R, the R32 features the legendary 2.6-liter inline six-cylinder RB26DETT engine beloved by tuners. Even the new R35 GT-R has a twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter V6. On top of that, every Z car produced by Nissan has some kind of inline six-cylinder engine!
Toyota
Not only are Toyota the best-performing car engine brands, they are also the most versatile. We could spend days talking about the different powertrains Toyota has made over the years, from the smallest engines to the largest.
Not long ago, Toyota released the GR Yaris. This little steel cannon has a 257-horsepower 1.6-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine. Soon, the GR Corolla followed suit, increasing the power of this micro-turbo three-cylinder engine to 300 horsepower. When it comes to six-cylinder engines, few can compete with the fantastic 2JZ-GE, especially the twin-turbocharged 2JZ-GTE found in the Mk4 Toyota Supra. But the best is still the 4.8-liter 1LR-GUE V10 collaborated by Yamaha. You may ask, which Toyota product has a V10 engine? It's the Lexus LFA.
