I used to think that screen fingerprinting technology was particularly cool. I can unlock the fingerprints on the screen. I only saw it in movies. Now this technology has been applied to the thousand yuan machine, but we have no original impulse to it. I'd rather some mobile phones return to physical side fingerprints. Why?
All mobile phones that support screen fingerprint recognition put the ultrasonic identification module at the bottom of the screen, and every time you use the screen fingerprint to unlock, you need to move your thumb down. Some mobile phones have a very low unlocking position, which is awkward every time they are unlocked. Sometimes the mobile phone will fall off when the hand slips. However, unlocking the side fingerprint is different. It is completely in line with our normal posture of holding a mobile phone, and it can be unlocked by pressing it.
At present, there are three kinds of screen fingerprint identification schemes, namely capacitive, ultrasonic and optical. All three schemes have a disadvantage, that is, when water stains or stains appear on fingers or screens, unlocking is easy to fail. Even if the screen unlocking scheme is optimized well now, there is still a greater chance of failure.
Some mobile phones don't do screen fingerprinting, and it's not without technology or patents, mainly because the screen of mobile phones is LCD, not OELD. At present, the models on sale are all organic light-emitting diode screens as long as they support the off-screen fingerprints. There are three ways to unlock the off-screen fingerprints because the LCD screen is too thick and the light transmittance is too poor. Therefore, these mobile phones with LCD screens will choose side fingerprints.
There are also some mobile phones equipped with OLED screens, but they just don't choose to use screen fingerprints. In addition to considering the good side fingerprint experience, they may also save costs or make more room for other parts, such as Sony Xperia series models. Although Sony has not publicly explained why its mobile phone does not use screen fingerprints, according to industry speculation, on the one hand, the introduction of screen fingerprints will affect the workflow of the whole production chain and increase the manufacturing cost of mobile phones, on the other hand, it will also make more room for other components inside the mobile phone.
Screen fingerprint and side fingerprint have become the most popular unlocking methods at present, each with its own advantages. However, from the current industry situation, screen fingerprints are more used by flagship mobile phones, while side fingerprints are mostly used by low-end models within 2000 files.
