Characteristics: This product is spherical in shape, with a diameter of 1 to 1.5 mm. The surface is grey-brown or yellow-brown, with fine raised dots, and a slightly concave linear hilum at one end. It is solid and not easily crushed by nails. The smell is slight and the taste is light.
Identification
⑴ Take a small amount of this product and soak it in boiling water. The surface will be sticky; when heated and cooked until the seed coat ruptures, a yellow-white spiral embryo will be exposed. Like spinning silk. ⑵The powder of this product is yellowish brown or dark brown. The seed coat epidermal cells are quasi-square or rectangular in cross-section, with thickened side walls; they are rounded and polygonal in surface view, with significantly thickened walls at the corners. The seed coat grid-like cells are in sheets, with 2 rows in cross-section and a shiny band; the surface is polygonal and wrinkled. ② Cuscuta grandis
The characteristics are similar to the above species, but larger, with a long diameter of about 3mm and a short diameter of about 2 to 3mm. Observed under a magnifying glass: the surface is arranged in different shapes. Neat short linear markings.
Mainly produced in Shaanxi, Guizhou, Yunnan, Sichuan and other places.
The seeds of seaside dodder and soybean dodder, which belong to the same genus, are also used as dodder in a few areas.
Chemical composition Cuscuta contains resin glycosides and sugars.
Dodder contains glycosides, vitamin A substances, and its content is 0.0378% based on vitamin A.
Soybean dodder contains β-carotene, γ-carotene, 5,6-epoxy-α-carotene, dandelion xanthin and lutein.
Pharmacological effects Cuscuta soy sauce (made from Cuscuta and bean cake), infusion, and tincture can enhance the contractility of the isolated toad heart, and the effect on the heart rate is an increase in the former. The latter two can reduce blood pressure, reduce spleen volume, inhibit intestinal movement, and excite the isolated uterus in anesthetized dogs. The LD50 of dodder ethanol-extracted aqueous solution injected subcutaneously into mice was 2.465g/kg. No poisoning symptoms occurred when 30-40g/kg was administered through the stomach; 0.05g/120g dodder soy sauce, infusion, and tincture was administered to rats. , for 70 consecutive days, it did not affect the growth and development of the animals, and no pathological changes were seen.
Preparation of Cuscuta: filter the impurities, wash and dry in the sun. Dodder cake: put the clean dodder seeds in a pot, add water and cook until they pop and turn into brownish-grey thick porridge. Mash them into cakes or add rice wine and flour to make cakes. Cut into pieces and dry in the sun.
① "Lei Gong Pao Zhi Lun": Collect it, remove the thick and thin shells, soak it with bitter wine for two days, filter it out, soak it in the natural juice of Polygonatum for one night, until it is bright, and fry it with a slight fire until it is dry. , put it into a mortar, heat it, and turn the iron pestle into powder.
