Project Funding The researchers of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University carry out about 2,5 scientific research projects every year. In 212/13, the Research Committee of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University allocated 143.24 million yuan as research funding, most of which was funded by the University Grants Committee (UGC). Awards ranking From 21 to 212/13, the school won more than 18 awards in several international innovation and invention exhibitions, including more than 6 gold medals. According to Thomson Reuters' calculation of 16,313 papers on textiles and clothing published by the world's top 5 universities (based on the amount of research) from 29 to 213, the Institute of Applied Science and Textile ranked first in the world in terms of research performance and cited influence, while the Institute ranked second in terms of the number of published papers. Some important achievements are the first to find that arginase can effectively deal with drug-resistant cancer. The twisted TM low-twist ring spindle single yarn technology was developed. A large-scale structural diagnosis and prediction system has been developed, and the projects that have used this system include Hong Kong Tsing Ma Bridge, Sutong Bridge and Guang Zhouta. The school established the Enterprise Development Institute in 1999. In 212/13, PolyU Technology and Consulting Co., Ltd. provided about 53 consulting services to about 35 institutions, with a total business income of over HK$ 11 million. Since 26, PolyU has been awarded the "Best Partner Award for SMEs" by the Hong Kong Small and Medium Enterprises General Chamber of Commerce for seven times. The school also promotes an award scheme to encourage innovative inventions and attaches importance to the protection of intellectual property rights. As of June 213, the school has obtained more than 15 patents, and about 37 inventions are under patent application. In 213/214, the school handled 76 patent applications, formally submitted 67 patent applications and obtained 49 new patent inventions. In addition, the school has also set up a "PolyU Micro-Fund Program" to provide seed funds for PolyU students and alumni to stimulate innovative and creative thinking and support them to start their own businesses.
