Second, in recent years, Toyota's patent protection related to hybrid technology has gradually expired. To put it bluntly, the first generation of THS hybrid technology is Toyota's leftovers. Third, and most importantly, it is urgent for Toyota to promote its hybrid technology to other manufacturers.

Although abundant patents have established a solid technical barrier for Toyota and gained a lot of profits, the technical blockade has also made it lose part of its right to speak. Most of the patents related to hybrid vehicles are held by Toyota, and many other manufacturers can only find another way to develop pure electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles. However, oil-electric hybrid and plug-in hybrid will only be a short-term transition, and pure electric drive is the main development direction in the future, which has formed a global understanding. More importantly, for example, in the China market, the policy directly bypassed the oil-electricity mix and did not enjoy the green license plate, lottery, subsidies and other related preferential conditions. At present, the influence of Toyota hybrid technology in the market is not ideal.

Binding its own hybrid technology to GAC will also help to expand the share of hybrid vehicles, truly expand the influence of Toyota hybrid technology in the market, and even attract more cooperation, and also win more time for Toyota to develop pure electric vehicles and reserve confidence for future competition. In the long run, it is good for Toyota.
