Deng Lupu was born in the north of Ayrshire on 1840. He grew up on a farm and knew the life on the farm like the back of his hand. Deng Lupu's parents wanted him to study veterinary medicine, so they sent Deng Lupu to the Royal Veterinary College of Edinburgh University early. Deng Lupu was very diligent at school, which can be said to be very worthy of the high tuition fees. Before graduation, Deng Lupu used what he had learned to help his parents and farmers in his hometown solve many problems. After graduation, Deng Lupu first worked as a veterinarian in Scotland for 10 years. From 65438 to 0867, Deng Lupu went to Dompatrick, where he cooperated with others to open a veterinary clinic.
As a veterinarian, he has to deal with rubber products every day. Deng Lupu's invention of tires also had a lot to do with it. More than 20 years of experience in using rubber products made him start to consider other uses of rubber. On the other hand, when Deng Lupu went to the farm, he often endured the bumps of the carriage on the rough road. He blamed the discomfort on the road on the carriage tires. But it wasn't until 1887 that Deng Lupu was inspired by seeing his son riding a tricycle on the cobblestone road.
Deng Lupu's son rode a tricycle with solid rubber tires. In order to make riding more comfortable, Deng Lupu first made an inflatable bladder out of canvas, and then put a rubber tube for watering flowers outside the bladder, and glued them together to make a simple pneumatic tire.
Then he did a test in his backyard. Pneumatic tires made of canvas lining and watering pipes will bounce back after rolling and hitting the wall, that is, cushion. Deng Lupu was very satisfied with the test results. He immediately replaced all the two rear wheels of his son's tricycle with pneumatic tires. 1888 65438+ 10, Deng Lupu's son finally got on a tricycle modified by his father, and Deng Lupu also modified a bicycle for himself, and successfully applied for a patent for pneumatic tires at the end of that year.
Soon after, local bicycle manufacturers cooperated with Deng Lupu to produce more than 50 new pneumatic tire bicycles, 1889, which were produced by cyclist Willie? Willie Hume took part in the bicycle race on this bike and won by a landslide. The tire invented by Deng Lupu became famous.
It is said that when a bicycle with new tires appeared in the shop window, people who wanted to see it soon filled the whole street. Soon after, Deng Lupu sold the patent to Harvey for 3,000 pounds. They set up a new company named after Deng Lupu to produce new tires.
In fact, however, only in the second year after obtaining the patent, that is, 1890, Deng Lupu was told that the patent was invalid because of the Scottish inventor Robert? William? Robert William Thomson, at 1846, has obtained a patent for a similar idea.
Fortunately, the cancellation of the patent did not affect the company's tire production business, but in 1895, Deng Lupu finally chose to quit the company. He used his savings to invest in a textile factory in Dublin, and then returned to his old veterinary profession until he died in Dublin in 192 1.
