As a traditional biological sewage treatment process, ordinary activated sludge process is a sewage treatment method with high treatment efficiency. Microorganisms in activated sludge mainly include bacteria, protozoa and algae, among which bacteria mainly exist in the state of micelles and filamentous bacteria. In the traditional activated sludge process, cultivating a certain concentration of activated sludge with good settling performance is the key to the operation and the key to ensure the quality of effluent.

3 Inlet water quality

The influent quality of Shenzhen Binhe Sewage Treatment Plant fluctuated greatly, with the highest influent BOD5 concentration of 450 mg/L and the lowest BOD5 concentration of 80 mg/L. The frequency of influent BOD5 concentration between100 mg/L and 200 mg/L was 54%, and that between 200 mg/L and 300 mg/L was 26.5%. The average influent BOD5 concentration is190 mg/l/l. The frequency of influent SS concentration between 120 mg/L and 240 mg/L is 76%, the frequency of influent SS concentration greater than 240mg/L is 24%, and the average influent SS concentration is146mg/L. 4 Operation situation

Shenzhen has a subtropical maritime climate, with an annual average temperature of 23℃, a monthly average maximum temperature of 28℃ in summer and a monthly average minimum temperature of 15℃ in winter. The temperature difference between the four seasons is small, and the temperature of urban sewage is suitable for microbial reproduction.

The influent of Binhe Sewage Treatment Plant is mainly domestic sewage, with only a small amount of industrial wastewater, and the influent BOD5/ CODCr is greater than 0.3, so the biochemical process of sewage is easy to carry out. The abnormal change of influent CODCr can reflect the abnormal change of influent BOD5.

The influent of Binhe sewage treatment plant often contains floating objects, silt and building sand. The operation mode of the sand pump used in the original design of Dule grit chamber is not suitable, the sand pump is often blocked, the detention time of Dule grit chamber is too long, the silt content of the sand is too large, and the sand-water separator used in the original design is not dehydrated well, which makes the production and operation difficult.

Then, according to the actual influent quality, the Dor grit chamber was reformed according to the principle of advection tank, the height of outlet weir plate was reduced, aeration pipes were added, and the simple and efficient mechanical sand scraping method was adopted, which solved the difficulty of sand-water separation and reduced sludge sedimentation.

After one precipitation, the removal rates of SS, BOD5 and CODCr reached 56.2%, 45.8% and 565,438 0.2% respectively. The average concentrations of SS, BOD5 and CODCr in the effluent of the primary sedimentation tank are 64mg/L, 103mg/L and 185.3mg/L respectively. Because of the high content of suspended sludge in influent, the removal rate of suspended organic matter by primary precipitation is higher than the design value. Because some influent water quality exceeds the design standard, the frequency of SS concentration in the effluent of the primary sedimentation tank exceeds the design value is 8.4%. The frequency of effluent BOD5 concentration exceeding the design value is 13.4%, which forms an impact load on the aeration tank.

The properties of activated sludge in aeration tank directly affect the effluent quality, and the composition of activated sludge includes both bacterial micelle and filamentous bacteria. The growth of activated sludge is determined by nutrients, water temperature, pH value and other factors. Activated sludge concentration is an internal factor affecting sludge load.

The activated sludge concentration in the aeration tank of Binhe Sewage Treatment Plant is maintained at about 1000mg/L, and the average sludge load in the aeration tank is 0.3 1kg BOD5/(kg MLSS? D), greater than the design value.

The sedimentation performance of activated sludge is an important factor affecting the effluent quality of secondary sedimentation tank. Controlling the sedimentation ratio of activated sludge at a reasonable level depends on the influent quality such as pH, nutrients, water temperature and the design parameters of the secondary sedimentation tank. The monitoring results show that when the sludge sedimentation ratio SV of aeration tank is less than 40%, the activated sludge settles well in the secondary sedimentation tank. When the concentration of activated sludge in the aeration tank is lower than 900mg/L, filamentous bacteria have the opportunity to multiply in large quantities. Filamentous bacteria have strong ability to decompose organic matter. When bacterial micelles are dominant, the increase of filamentous bacteria has even stronger degradation effect on organic matter than activated sludge, but the separation ability of sludge and water is poor, which has a great impact on the effluent SS of the secondary sedimentation tank. When the concentration of activated sludge in aeration tank is lower than 800mg/L, filamentous bacteria will cause serious sludge bulking. In actual production, sludge bulking can be prevented by taking the sludge sedimentation ratio of 40% as a reference value and combining with microbial microscopic examination. Low concentration activated sludge process is more likely to cause sludge bulking than high concentration activated sludge process.

5 sewage quality

The activated sludge system of Shenzhen Binhe Sewage Treatment Plant can efficiently remove organic matter and suspended matter, and the removal rate of BOD5 and SS can reach over 90%. The effluent BOD5 and SS meet the national secondary treatment discharge standard, which is lower than 30 mg/L; The removal rate of CODCr can reach more than 80%, the effluent CODCr is less than 120 mg/L, the average effluent CODCr is 32.88 mg/L, and the frequency of effluent CODCr concentration below 60mg/L is 89.2%.

6 Operation management

During the operation of traditional activated sludge wastewater treatment system, the influent quality often changes and fluctuates greatly. In order to maintain the stable operation of aeration tank, it is the key to adjust the operation parameters in time with the change of influent quality. Through long-term operation practice and regular research on water quality analysis results, we draw the following conclusions:

When the effluent BOD5 and SS are more than 20mg/L or the sedimentation ratio of activated sludge in the aeration tank is more than 40%, the sludge reflux ratio needs to be adjusted in time in the operation section to maintain the normal performance of activated sludge.

There is a trend correlation between effluent CODCr and effluent SS and BOD5, but the determination of CODCr and SS is faster, and BOD5 is slower. When the effluent CODCr is greater than 60mg/L, the sludge reflux ratio should be adjusted appropriately to increase the concentration of activated sludge in the aeration tank, so as to maintain the removal effect of organic matter and maintain stable operation.

7 abstract

The traditional activated sludge process is a low-cost and high-efficiency sewage treatment method, which can effectively remove organic matter. Activated sludge process with long residence time also has nitrification function, but the traditional activated sludge process is easy to cause sludge bulking in operation, and its impact load resistance is poor when it is operated at low activated sludge concentration.
