Mechanical graduate students, how to plan their three-year life so as not to waste it?

I read an article and thought it was good. Please share it with the landlord. Although I am not a mechanical major, I think this article is suitable for all engineering students. The next step is to copy and paste the content.

Diligence, self-improvement, truth-seeking and innovation-motto

First, make good preparations before class, communicate with tutors more, and try to choose an innovative research direction.

Innovative research direction is an important guarantee for achieving research results in the later period. Your research direction should be fully communicated with the tutor and strive for the full support of the tutor. We should dare to express our research ideas and put forward our research plans to our tutors. However, when I first started graduate school, I was generally blind about the research topic or research direction and had no overall understanding. Therefore, we must make careful preparations before communicating with the tutor, and it is best to submit a more detailed research plan like a foreign university.

At this time, I suggest that you get started quickly in the following two ways:

(1) Read the academic papers published by the tutor or lab brothers and sisters carefully. If you can get the master's thesis of your brothers and sisters and study it carefully, it will be very helpful for you to get familiar with the research content of the laboratory and tutor quickly. Starting from these directions and refining your own research ideas, it is easy to get the support of your tutor.

② Read the academic literature of this science deeply. It may be difficult to read deeply at first, but it is important to stick to it. Personally, I don't want to be greedy when I study. It is enough to read 1 ~ 2 articles carefully every day. The key is to think hard and find out the core idea of the literature and the possible places for further improvement. This helps me to form a preliminary concept of the current research hotspots and difficulties encountered in this discipline. In this way, when discussing with your tutor, you can also have a clear idea, and it is easier to get the recognition and support of your tutor.

Second, actively participate in the tutor's related topics, cultivate their team spirit, and exercise their comprehensive ability to deal with complex technologies and affairs.

It is suggested to actively participate in scientific research projects undertaken by tutors. Some tutors may undertake fewer projects, so they can apply for innovative projects and innovative plans from the school themselves. Personally, it is very important to fully participate in a project to cultivate and exercise one's comprehensive quality. Because, in the process of participating in the project, you usually encounter many technical and business problems. By constantly solving and overcoming these problems, it is very useful to promote and improve their own quality in scientific research, management, communication and dealing with people.

When participating in the project, we should learn to unite the members of the project team. When encountering sudden contradictions and conflicts, we should try our best to overcome ourselves and have a global concept. In addition, the tasks assigned by the tutor, whether technical or business, are taken seriously, because this is an excellent opportunity for the tutor to examine your comprehensive quality.

Third, think more, do more, and strive to publish high-level academic papers.

Doctoral and master students need to publish a certain level and quantity of academic papers in order to successfully defend their graduation. After my own summary and consulting other predecessors, I think the following points can be paid attention to when publishing academic papers:

(1) Publication level: If the idea of the paper you are about to submit is similar to the related literature of nearly three years ago, you can usually only publish it in a lower level journal unless your achievements are better than that literature or your research is more comprehensive. For example, if you are engaged in the research of optimization algorithm, your article is the modeling and simulation of a single algorithm. Unless a single algorithm has never been used in this field before, or its function is not comprehensive enough, and your research results are very good, it is difficult for you to get a considerable level of publication. However, if your model is a mixture of several algorithms and has the advantages of several algorithms (such as computational complexity and model accuracy). ), as long as your article is written properly, it will be published in a journal with a relatively high level.

(2) Communicate with other disciplines: you can boldly introduce mature technologies or methods from other fields into your own research field, and at the same time extend the relevant research results of your own discipline to other disciplines to try to solve related problems. In fact, this is also a good academic exchange and technological innovation.

③ Cite the important research results of high-level papers: download documents from well-known foreign databases. Seeking ideas from foreign researchers' literature and combining with their own research fields can often get some good research results. But be careful not to copy others' achievements directly, which is the basic morality in scientific research. If you find other people's methods useful, you can quote them in the references and explain them in the introduction.

4 Listen to the advisor's advice: communicate with the advisor when publishing a paper. After all, your tutor has been engaged in this research for far longer and deeper than you, and his professional advice is very useful for your article. However, because the tutor is busy, it is suggested to show him more mature manuscripts so as not to waste the tutor's precious time.

Fourth, actively participate in academic competitions, actively participate in academic conferences at home and abroad in related disciplines, and broaden academic horizons.

If energy permits, it is recommended to participate in some subject competitions. I don't think whether you can win the prize is the most important thing, no matter what level of competition it is. By carefully preparing for a game, it is also a good arrangement for your knowledge system.

In addition, you can selectively attend some academic conferences at home and abroad. Although some conferences are purely for making money, there are still many conferences that have played a very good role in academic exchanges. Taking transportation engineering as an example, some annual meetings held by China Railway Society and China Aerodynamics Society are still of high level. Not only a large number of heavyweight experts in this subject attended the keynote speech, but also many outstanding scholars with similar research with you, which gave you a good opportunity to learn and communicate.

Finally, I will take myself as an example to elaborate on the feelings of the above experience. Since I entered the graduate school in 2005, I have discussed with my tutor many times. Starting from the research direction of vehicle intelligent measurement and control in the field of traffic engineering, combined with the harvest of reading a large number of academic articles, I put forward to choose the intelligent prediction and optimization of wind speed along the railway transportation safety as the research direction, which has been strongly supported by my tutor.

After several years of painstaking research, great research progress has been made in this direction. In "China Railway Science" and "Journal of Wuhan University of Technology (Traffic Edition)", the optimized gale forecasting model based on train operation safety was published for the first time in China, and the national invention patent was successfully applied. At the same time, the optimization method of forecasting model has been introduced into the field of wind farm planning in China, which has also played a certain role in wind speed evaluation and planning of wind farms. The achievement was published in the authoritative journal of China Power Electronics Department, Journal of China Electrical Engineering, which was strongly affirmed by the editorial board, and was invited as the reviewer of another journal of the editorial board, Power Grid Technology.

In addition, I actively participated in the related topics of the tutor, and I am very grateful to the doctoral tutor for providing valuable opportunities. In 2006, my tutor and I participated in the key project of the National Science and Technology Support Plan-the National Qinghai-Tibet Railway Construction Project, and undertook the research of forecasting model, the compilation of system software and the design of wireless communication system. So far, I have been to the highest altitude and extremely harsh conditions in the world (Tanggula unmanned station) for scientific research more than ten times. With the support of my tutor, I attended many national academic conferences organized by China Railway Society and China Aerodynamics Society, and participated in many related technical review meetings, which greatly broadened my academic horizons.

These are some of my experiences in recent years. Please correct me. Achievements belong to the past. I will definitely seize the golden age of young people's study and work, work hard, and make my modest contribution to the development of traffic engineering science in China!

Unconventional research work will lead to unexpected results.

I have been paying more attention to the "scientific research experience" section of wood worms, and I will share my recent experience today.

The previous topic is related to calculation. Stay in front of the computer all day, and time slips away from the network unconsciously. Although I never play games, I really spend a lot of time browsing aimlessly on the Internet every day.

Think back to your overall schedule:

1. Get up at 7: 45 in the morning, wash and tidy up, go to school at 8: 00, buy some breakfast on the way, and get to the lab at around 8: 15, which is early. Then I started eating breakfast and surfing the Internet. Sometimes I accidentally arrived at 10. If there is anything else, make a phone call or come to the lab at two o'clock in the afternoon. I just took a nap and still feel groggy, which is very inefficient. Although I have to stay until 10 every day in the evening, I don't seem to get much.

Time passed by, and finally I barely graduated.

Since the year before last, I have changed my research environment, changed my subjects, changed my experiments and made a plan for myself. Now it seems to be really useful. I have sent n articles in the past two years and I am still sorting out n articles. At present, I do something unconventional:

1. I won't follow the nine-to-five working style to do unconventional work. According to the experiment, sometimes I may stay in the laboratory for more than 20 hours, and sometimes I may not go. So sometimes 10 arrives at school and sometimes 12 arrives at school. Of course, I came back late. I usually sleep until I wake up naturally, saving my lunch break. At first, my tutor didn't agree with my practice, but he has accepted it in the last year. After all, I occasionally have some good results. Although this way of life is not good for health and cannot be a future research method, it is indeed an effective research method for masters and doctors.

2. Make full use of the little work time before the weekend and do something unrelated to scientific research in the laboratory. Now make full use of the weekend time, because most public facilities are idle on weekends, so you can use them with confidence. Sometimes a weekend's data can be worth a week's results. So on Monday, I usually sort out my grades easily, and I will try to discuss with my tutor on Tuesday.

3. Stay as far away from the computer as possible. The first thing to go to the laboratory every day is not to turn on the computer, but to turn on the experimental equipment (because most experimental instruments need to be preheated 1 hour). In the meantime, you can receive letters online and deal with some other things. Now that the instrument has been turned on, you will be forced to leave the computer. So basically, just go to the lab and get the data.

4. Plan to leave a note for yourself when you leave the lab every day to remind yourself what the next day's task is, so that you won't think in the lab, and sometimes when you sleep at night, your thoughts will be clearer. It is best to process the experimental data before going back every night so as to adjust the next day's experiment.

5. Always discuss with the tutor, be a prepared person, sort out the results and questions at any time, and try to discuss as long as the tutor comes to visit the laboratory or seems free. I formed a habit in the past year. As long as the tutor comes to the experiment, I can clearly present the results and problems to the tutor within 5 minutes, and the effect is quite good. When discussing problems with your tutor, you must not just talk without practice. In fact, it is better to use a picture and data to illustrate a result or problem for a long time. I used to be afraid to meet and discuss with my tutor, but now I always look forward to my tutor. Hehe, I have become passive and active.

6. Pay close attention to writing an article, feel that the information has accumulated to a certain extent, and prepare the article quickly. My personal experience is that after writing the first draft of an article, I will talk to my tutor about writing the article. Within a few days after the discussion, my revised article is expected to be presented to the tutor (how efficient, hehe). It may take a long time to get feedback after giving the article to the tutor. At the same time, I must make a plan for the next article. I usually form the second article before the last article and revise it back and forth, so the tutor basically releases the first article, otherwise it will take a long time.

7. Have more meetings, communicate more, and find ways to go to meetings. In fact, as long as your grades are good, your people are good, and the laboratory conditions are not particularly bad, your tutor will consider it. Of course, this is also a complementary relationship. If you have no grades, it is estimated that the tutor will not let you go. So when I have nothing to do, I always look for some information about the meeting and then estimate the cost myself. The less the remaining expenses, the better. It doesn't matter if the traffic is slow, the cost will be minimized, and then I will convince my tutor. Under normal circumstances, it is still possible. Through several meetings, I have gained a lot, not only exercising myself, but also learning knowledge. I remember having two meetings. I reported other people's problems according to the situation at the meeting. After I came back, I made a new evaluation or supplement to the experiment, and then I made an article.
