Sugar beet
Also known as sugar beet and sugar radish.
Cultivation of Beta vulgaris, a plant from the Chenopodiaceae family, is one of the most important vegetables. There are 4 types: 1. Vegetable beet (beet); 2. Sugar beet (sugar beet) used for sugar production; 3. Fodder beet used as juicy feed for livestock; 4. For food or seasoning Leaves of beet (Zinda rapa).
In the first year of cultivation, vegetable beets will produce thick, fleshy taproots that are edible. In the second year, tall, multi-branched stems will grow, with green clusters of small flowers; the fruit will be brown and cork-like in texture, commonly known as "seed bulbs". The taproot is oblate, spherical, cone-shaped or even long cone-shaped. The skin and flesh are generally dark red to deep purple-red, with some almost white in between. The flesh color becomes uniform after cooking. Beets are commonly eaten cooked or pickled in the United States, and Russian beet soup is a traditional beet soup from Eastern Europe. Sugar beet, the most important commercial type, was developed in Germany in the 18th century. Britain had blocked France from imported sugar. As a countermeasure, Napoleon encouraged the cultivation of sugar beets. Since then, sugar beets have been widely cultivated in Europe. Beet sugar now accounts for about 2/5 of the world's sugar production, and the main producing countries are Ukraine, Russia, the United States, France, Poland, Germany, Turkey, Italy, Romania and the United Kingdom. The cultivation of fodder and leaf beets, like most crops, began in prehistoric times.
Beets grow well in deep, loose soil rich in organic matter; both chemical fertilizers and manure work well. Irrigation is widely practiced and it can tolerate soils with high saline-alkali content, but is sensitive to highly acidic soils and low boron. Boron deficiency inhibits growth and causes black heart disease in the roots. Sugar beets are widely grown in temperate and cold temperate regions, and in warm-temperate regions during the cool season. In a suitable climate, the growth period of vegetable beet is 8 to 6 to 5 to 10 weeks, and some feed beets can be as long as 30 weeks. Beet leaves are a source of riboflavin, iron, and vitamins A and C. Cook more. When selecting, choose fresh and tender ones. Beetroot is often canned (whole or sliced), pickled with spices, or soaked in sweet and sour sauce.
Sugar beet (Beta) Sugar beet is a biennial herbaceous plant, formerly known as aphrodisiac. It belongs to the genus Beta in the family Familia Chenopodiaceae. It is one of the main sugar crops in my country. In the first year of life, it mainly grows vegetatively, accumulating rich nutrients in the hypertrophic roots. In the second year, it mainly grows reproductively, and the flower branches are drawn out to form seeds through cross-pollination.
Sugar beet originated from the Mediterranean coast, and the wild species Maritime beet is the ancestor of cultivated sugar beet. It was introduced to China from Arab countries about 1500 years ago. In our country, leaf beet cultivation has a long history, while sugar beet was only introduced in 1906. The main sugar beet producing areas in my country are in Northeast, Northwest and North China.
