WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), formerly known as WWF (World Wrestling Federation), was founded by American professional sports legend Vince Blackman in 1982 by his father. Federation (Global Wrestling Association) bought it and changed its name to WWF. It has been established for more than 20 years. In March 2002, it lost a patent lawsuit with another WWF (World Wildlife Federation) English abbreviation, so it reluctantly gave up using it. A time-honored brand with more than 20 years of history, it was renamed WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment), and in 2002 it acquired two other major wrestling groups, WCW (World Champion Wrestling) and ECW (Extreme Champion Wrestling), and merged them into what it is today.
