In 2022, the United States shipped $2.061 trillion worth of goods around the world. This dollar amount increased by 23.8 from 2018’s $1.666 trillion. The total value of merchandise exports from the United States increased by 17.6 compared to the same period last year and stood at $1.754 trillion in 2021.
The largest 2021 U.S. exports by value were refined petroleum, crude oil, petroleum gas, automobiles, and electronic integrated circuits. Collectively, these major exports account for 22.2% of total U.S. exports. This percentage indicates a diverse range of export commodities, although three of the largest U.S. exports are energy commodities.
The United States ranks among the world leaders in exporting refined petroleum, petroleum gas, and automobiles.
