What is an oled display screen?

Abstract: Nowadays, OLED has become the development trend of TV in the future, trying to "stand in the C position" in advance and becoming the standard of high-end TV. What is an oled display? Is it different from ordinary LED TV display? OLED display technology is different from the traditional LCD display mode. It does not need backlight, and uses very thin organic material coating and glass substrate. When current passes through, these organic materials will emit light. Let's learn more about oled display! What is OLED TV?

OLED means "organic light-emitting diode", which is a relatively new skill to display the screen. "OLED TV" was first proposed by LG. OLED TV uses newer display skills, and now there is no need for LCD panel. RGB color signals are directly displayed by OLED diodes, so there is no doubt about the visual viewpoint of LCD.

the basic structure of p>OLED is a sandwich structure consisting of a thin and transparent indium tin oxide (ITO) with semiconductor characteristics, which is connected with the positive electrode of power and another metal cathode. All structural layers include hole transport layer (HTL), light-emitting layer (EL) and electron transport layer (ETL). When the power is supplied to an appropriate voltage, the positive hole and the negative charge will be connected in the luminescent layer, and bright light will be generated. According to its formula, three primary colors of red, green and blue RGB will be generated, forming the basic color.

Advantages and disadvantages of OLED TV display screen

1. Advantages of OLED display screen

(1) The thickness can be less than 1 mm, which is only 1/3 of that of LCD screen, and the weight is lighter;

(2) The solid mechanism has no liquid substance, so it has better seismic performance and is not afraid of falling;

(3) There is almost no problem of viewing angle, and the picture is still undistorted even when viewed from a large viewing angle;

(4) The response time is 1/1 of that of LCD, and there is absolutely no smear phenomenon when displaying moving pictures;

(5) It has good low-temperature characteristics, and it can still display normally at minus 4 degrees, but LCD can't;

(6) The manufacturing process is simple and the cost is lower;

(7) The luminous efficiency is higher and the energy consumption is lower than that of LCD;

(8) It can be manufactured on substrates made of different materials and can be made into flexible displays.

2. Disadvantages of OLED display screen

(1) The service life is usually only 5, hours, which is lower than that of LCD for at least 1, hours;

(2) mass production of large-size screens cannot be realized, so it is only suitable for portable digital products at present;

(3) There is a problem of insufficient color purity, which makes it difficult to display bright and rich colors.

What's the difference between OLED TV and LED TV

1. Contrast

OLED TV has great advantages in black because of its self-luminous characteristics. When the TV is completely dark, the black color of OLED TV is deeper, while the black color of LED TV is impure. Ordinary LED TV, due to the use of backlight technology, will have a certain impact in local dimming. From the details, although OLED has excellent black performance, the black detail expression is still insufficient, and LED LCD TV performs better in details. In terms of color, LED LCD panel can't emit color, and color filter is needed to obtain the required color, while OLED can display red, green and blue colors by self-illumination, which is really superior in color gamut. In terms of brightness, with HDR technology gradually becoming a "standard", LED LCD TVs have made great strides in brightness. However, the self-luminous characteristics of OLED make the light source not need to pass through the filter plate, and the light will not be attenuated, so both of them have advantages.

2. Viewing angle

LED LCD TVs are prone to light leakage due to different and uneven backlight positions, resulting in a decline in perception. The self-luminous effect of OLED TV can solve this problem. On the life of TV, in fact, OLED is not as short as rumored, and the service life of OLED TV and LED LCD TV is generally considered to be almost the same in the industry. In terms of the price that everyone is most concerned about, LCD TV is far ahead at a low price, while OLED is relatively expensive due to cost problems. However, with the increasing penetration rate, the price of OLED TV will also show a downward trend.

which is better, OLED TV or quantum dot TV

1. Color gamut

From the color gamut point of view, the NTSC color gamut of ordinary LCD TVs is only about 7% (the display pursues sRGB and the TV is NTSC), while some wide color gamut TVs can reach more than 8%. OLED TV can reach 95% or even higher, so the higher the color gamut of ordinary LCD TV

, the stronger the color rendering ability, especially on TV, and the higher the NTSC value, the wider the color gamut. Now we know that OLED can reach 95%. What about quantum dots?

quantum dot TV can easily achieve more than 11% color gamut, and the performance of the new generation of optical quantum dots is even more terrible. However, at the same time of high color gamut, the color accuracy will deviate, so it depends on your choice whether the color is rich or accurate, and the color of OLED TV is usually more accurate.

2. Brightness

Often, when we study OLED TVs, we will find that their picture brightness index is not high, even some of them are only 2 nits, while quantum dot TVs can achieve 4 nits, but of course they can't use such high brightness in daily use.

The most effective application scenario of ultra-high brightness is usually HDR. In HDR technologies such as Dolby Vision, the local brightness of TV can reach 1, or even 4, nits, and the daily use will be controlled at around 4 nits.

while the peak brightness of OLED TV is only 8 nits, why? To put it bluntly, it is a matter of life. The self-luminous characteristics of OLED determine that every pixel is emitting light. If the brightness is too high, the life will drop sharply, while the quantum dot TV is still a liquid crystal in essence. Therefore, as long as you do more backlighting and basically want to do how bright and how bright. Quantum dots are better in terms of HDR bright effect.

In addition, people used to say that OLED screens save electricity, but in fact, OLEDs don't save electricity, especially when all pixels are turned on when displaying white images. The same is true in TV, and because quantum dots or ordinary TVs all rely on backlighting, the picture will not be much brighter.

3. Light control

Both quantum dots and ordinary liquid crystals need backlight to emit light, so the performance of the backlight system is extremely important. We all know that some ground pictures in the video are black, while others are bright. Because the light source of the traditional side-entry backlight TV comes from the side, the light spreading effect of the backlight is realized through the light guide plate. The biggest advantage of this backlight mode is to simplify the backlight system and make the TV thinner and cheaper.

However, the side-entry backlight can't accurately control the brightness of local areas in the picture, so when you see a movie, the TV picture will be grayed out when you encounter a scene with large black patches and bright black patches, because the TV can't be dimmed.

and each pixel of OLED can emit light independently, so OLED kills any TV in light control ability.

how much is OLED TV

At present, the price of OLED TV is generally several thousand yuan, and the middle and high-end products are basically below 16 thousand yuan.
