What is an amorphous alloy transformer?

Amorphous metal transformer is a kind of power transformer with low loss and high energy efficiency. This transformer takes iron-based amorphous metal as the core. Because this material has no long-range ordered structure, it is easier to magnetize and degauss than ordinary magnetic materials. Therefore, the iron loss (no-load loss) of amorphous alloy transformer is 70-80% lower than that of traditional transformer with silicon steel as its core [1]. With the reduction of loss, the demand for power generation also decreases, and the emission of greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide also decreases accordingly. Based on energy supply and environmental protection [2][3], amorphous alloy transformers have been widely used in developing countries such as China [4][5] and India [6]. Based on the current electricity consumption in China and India, if the amorphous alloy transformer is completely used in the distribution network, it can save about 25-30 tons of power generation and reduce 20-30 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions every year.
