Development history of PET plastics

At 194 1, John Rex Weinfield, James Tennant Dixon and their staff in Manchester Printed Fabric Printing Association applied for the patent of PET material.

1946, the first patent for preparing PET was published in Britain, and ICI Company in Britain completed the pilot test in 1949. However, after purchasing the patent, DuPont Company of the United States set up a production device at 1953, which took the lead in realizing industrial production in the world. Early PET was almost used for synthetic fibers, commonly known as polyester and polyester in China. Since 1980s, PET has made a breakthrough as an engineering plastic, and successively developed nucleating agent and crystallization promoter. At present, PET and PBT have become one of the five major engineering plastics.

The scale of pet production in China lags far behind that of several major foreign manufacturers. Since 1980s, China has gradually imported 10,000 tons to several hundred thousand tons of advanced PET resin synthesis equipment from abroad, and the quality and output have made great progress. According to the statistics of China Textile Society, 1997, China produced1740,000 tons of PET chip resin, of which the production capacity of high-viscosity chip resin for packaging was 224,000 tons, and the sources for producing PET engineering plastic grade resin were sufficient. Because the equipment for preparing all kinds of mixed modified PET plastics is common with other polymer mixed modified equipment, the domestic production of mixed extruder has also formed a certain scale, so as long as the market is opened, the domestic production of PET plastics will also grow rapidly.
