Li Ruilin, an expert in chemical synthesis and drug synthesis. Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. A native of Shanghai. Graduated from Shanghai Daxia University in 1950. Researcher at Shanghai Institute of Family Planning. One of the founders of research on female family planning drugs in China. In 1964, the No. 1 contraceptive pill (norethindrone) and the No. 2 contraceptive pill (megestrol) were successfully developed, filling the domestic gap. In 1969, China's first No. 53 family-visiting contraceptive pill (Ancrdrin) was successfully developed. In 1978, both won the National Science and Technology Conference Award. In 1988, he successfully developed the latest international anti-early pregnancy drug mifepristone (RU-486), obtained the Chinese invention patent, and won the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award in 1993.
Mr. Li Ruilin died in Shanghai Ruijin Hospital at 22:00 on April 12, 2012 due to ineffective treatment. He was 84 years old.
