Beijing University of Information Science and Technology was established by the merger of the Beijing Institute of Mechanical Engineering, formerly affiliated with the Ministry of Machinery, and the Beijing Institute of Information Engineering, affiliated with the former Ministry of Electronics. It is a university with coordinated multi-disciplinary development and key support from Beijing. The history of running the school can be traced back to 1937. In the 85-year history of running the school, the school has always been rooted in China, integrated into the initial development of the national machinery industry and computer industry, and made indelible contributions to the national defense science and technology industry. At the same time, it has also formed distinctive information characteristics, industry characteristics, Military characteristics. The spirit of the school motto of “diligence in learning and trust in building a solid foundation” lives on here and is passed down from generation to generation. The school currently has 5 campuses, and a new campus covering an area of ??more than 1,200 acres has been officially opened.
The University of Information Science and Technology has distinctive characteristics in talent cultivation. Continue to strengthen scientific research and achieve outstanding results in new generation information technology, intelligent manufacturing and other fields. From 2007 to 2009, it continuously won 4 National Science and Technology Awards as the first unit; in 2017, it won 1 National Science and Technology Award again. It has 32 provincial, ministerial and industry key scientific research institutions, including 2 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, 1 Beijing laboratory, 6 Beijing key laboratories, 1 Beijing (higher education) engineering research center, Beijing Engineering There are 1 research center, 3 Beijing International Science and Technology Cooperation Bases, 1 Beijing Philosophy and Social Science Research Base, and 1 postdoctoral research workstation. The scale of international education continues to expand, and it has established inter-school exchange and cooperation relationships with more than 100 foreign universities, realizing a comprehensive joint training model for undergraduates, masters, and doctoral students. The school has a Sino-foreign cooperative education program for master's degree students in electronic information, approved by the Ministry of Education and co-organized with the University of Oakland in the United States. The school has hired a group of world-renowned experts and scholars, including academicians of the British Academy of Engineering and professors from the University of Cambridge, to serve as academic committee members and honorary professors of the school.
