Guyuan City is located in the center of the triangle composed of Xi, Lanzhou and Yinchuan. It is one of the five prefecture-level cities in Ningxia and the only one that does not follow the Yellow River. The Shaanxi-Gansu-Ningxia old revolutionary base area is planned as a central city, a regional central city in southern Ningxia, a political, economic and cultural center and a transportation hub.
Located at the intersection of farming culture in the central plains and nomadic culture in the north, it is the only place where the eastern section of the Silk Road passes through the northern road, and historically it is the economic center, transportation hub and military center of the northwest region. Guyuan is the first batch of national comprehensive pilot areas for new urbanization. On February 29th, 20 18, 18 was named by the State Ethnic Affairs Commission as the sixth batch of national demonstration zones (units) for national unity and progress.

According to the administrative level, it is divided into national highway 734 km, provincial highway 749 km, county road 149 km, township road 1962 km, village road 6789 km, and special highway 18 1 km.
