Since the Ministry of Education approved 13 universities to offer e-commerce majors in 2000, more than 200 universities have offered e-commerce majors with tens of thousands of students. Since last year, students majoring in e-commerce have gone to the market one after another. However, according to a recent article in E-Commerce World entitled "A Record of the Worries of Cultivating E-Commerce Professionals", the employment situation of e-commerce majors is not optimistic. Through investigation, the author found that as of June 15, 2004, the employment rate of fresh graduates majoring in e-commerce was 20%, which was far below the average employment rate for the first time.
Although this data is not necessarily 100% accurate from the statistical point of view, it also reflects the essence of the problem. In 2003, I posted an article "Worried about e-commerce professionals" on the Internet (which can be found online), and recently wrote an article "A few words of advice for e-commerce students", warning students to be cautious in learning this major. If you are unfortunate enough to study this major and are about to graduate, where can you find a job?
If the e-commerce major in your school does not have a prominent direction, you will feel like a hodgepodge, and you will feel that you have learned a lot, but nothing, and you have not established the core competitiveness of your major. When applying for a job, I have no self-confidence and no experience, so I can't convince myself that I am the best candidate for a certain position. In fact, e-commerce major is based on traditional business. Only by looking far and keeping a low profile, there is still a chance to enter a certain position.
First of all, forget that you are a graduate of e-commerce and consider yourself a graduate of marketing. If the personnel department questions it, you say it's the marketing direction. Which e-commerce major has no business courses in marketing and network marketing? E-commerce students who graduated from real marketing have inherent advantages in the use of the Internet, but their shortcomings may be their understanding of consumer psychology and consumer behavior, and such books abound, so it is enough to read one casually. And there are too many jobs related to marketing, such as sales, customer service, promotion, public relations and business.
Secondly, you can go to foreign trade after your English level, which can be called the direction of international e-commerce. If you haven't taken a course in foreign trade practice, you can call it an elective course or an audit. Sneaking around, just a little makeup, is enough for the interview.
Three, technology through the test, familiar with software and hardware, master a development technology, you can apply for the corresponding technical positions. Or go to the IT and Internet industries to apply for sales and services, which requires an understanding of technology, which is not something that ordinary marketing students can do at once.
Fourthly, girls can consider applying for administrative posts, such as clerks, secretaries and assistants. Students majoring in e-commerce are more competitive because they are more adaptable to office automation and informatization. You don't have to be a secretary major.
Fifth, start your own business and look at your personal situation. It's too easy to open a shop online now. As long as you have something to sell, you can try it. You don't have to register with the industrial and commercial department first, as in the traditional way. No taxes, no rent. It's really easy to be an online merchant.
The key to the problem is to find the right position to enter the company and experience what the business is like and what the enterprise is like. No matter what position, only when your performance in the company proves that students majoring in e-commerce do have advantages and differences compared with students majoring in other majors, will enterprises and the whole job market gradually form a good impression on students majoring in e-commerce. Otherwise, it will be more difficult for the latter e-commerce students to find jobs.
In fact, any major is a shell, and the process of learning is to cultivate people's ability and quality. If your comprehensive quality is sufficient, I believe that the enterprise will have a discerning eye and know the pearl. What I am most afraid of is that I can't do anything, but my mentality is still learning a hot major. Then you are hurting yourself.
Opportunities for students majoring in e-commerce
Students majoring in e-commerce may always feel confused about the future, but in fact, the road under their feet is very broad and there are many opportunities. If you grasp it, you will benefit for life. This paper will describe the employment opportunities, employment levels and jobs of students majoring in e-commerce, hoping to inspire teachers' teaching and students' learning.
Employment opportunities for students majoring in e-commerce
The following four types of enterprises deserve the most attention.
1, e-commerce service enterprise
Including hardware (R&D, production, sales and integration), software (R&D, sales and implementation) and consulting. With the popularization of e-commerce applications, there is a certain demand for professionals who develop and sell related software and hardware, but this demand may be explicit or implicit. Under clear circumstances, employers will definitely recruit professionals who understand e-commerce. In the hidden case, the human resources department of the employer may not know whether it is appropriate to recruit talents with e-commerce professional background in the face of the e-commerce needs of market customers, but only people in related disciplines such as computers can barely cope with it, or ask them to supplement their knowledge in e-commerce. Consulting industry, due to its "innate" professional breadth and depth, generally has a clear demand.
2. E-commerce enterprises
For such an enterprise, whether it is a pure professional e-commerce enterprise or a brand-new operation mode enterprise combined with other main businesses (such as Xidan Shopping Mall), the demand for e-commerce professionals is the most suitable.
3. Traditional enterprises
For traditional enterprises, e-commerce means new operating tools (such as corporate websites, it is difficult to find companies without websites now). People who run new operating tools are nothing more than professionals trained and recruited from employees who use old operating tools. Of course, I'm afraid the work of cultivating old employees depends on experts.
4. Traditional industries
For traditional industries, e-commerce is a new commercial means. E-commerce will be used in trade, logistics, processing industry and agriculture. The purpose of picking out traditional industries is that if you are interested in engaging in a certain industry, you should deeply understand the development status, development trend, new technologies and new products of this industry, and judge the development level and development potential of e-commerce in this industry from a professional perspective. Of course, to be able to make these judgments independently, you must reach a certain level of professional knowledge and practical ability.
Employment level of students majoring in e-commerce
As shown in the figure below, it is a process from simple to complex from the practical level, the implementation level and the planning and decision-making level. It can be seen that there are fewer and fewer talents.
Practical operation level refers to the actual operation level in the operation of an e-commerce project.
The implementation layer refers to the implementation process of e-commerce projects. At this level, the ability to implement the project is the main requirement. It needs to be clear that the project is not completed by one person, but refers to a certain work that can participate in or even lead the project, such as process planning, interface design, content architecture and so on.
Planning and decision-making layer refers to the ability to plan its e-commerce scheme according to the specific circumstances of the environment and enterprises, and to assist in argumentation and decision-making on major project issues, such as what kind of payment method and distribution method to adopt.

With this subdivision, practitioners' in-depth research and unique opinions on the application of this industry will definitely become the basic requirements.
