The Origin of the Name of Queqiao in Queqiao

There is a saying that in the past, not far from the main entrance (now the south gate) of Daming Lake, there was an old east-west arched stone bridge, namely Quehua Bridge. Probably at that time, there were few tall buildings on the north bank of Daming Lake, and the air was not as polluted as it is now. Visitors standing on the top of the bridge and looking north can see Queshan and Huashan in the northern suburb of Jinan. Therefore, the bridge was named "Magpie" and "Hua".

According to previous records, there is a "Baihua Bridge" on Baihuazhou south of Guquehua Bridge. The two bridges are opposite, with Baihuazhou in the middle. "Licheng County Records" also said: The Baihua Bridge in the past is the Magpie Bridge now. It was not until the Yuan Dynasty that Baihua Bridge was renamed Queqiao. At the same time, another bridge in the south was named Baihua Bridge. It can be seen that there are other bridges besides the existing magpie bridge on Baihuazhou. However, for many years, there were no other bridges except the Quehua Bridge, and there were no traces of other bridges. Due to the long history, the statement in the county annals can't be confirmed. The so-called Baihua Bridge can only be a historical name, where it can no longer be verified, so we have to leave it.
