Single queen colony is established by mating queens spread by air. This mode of transmission can spread the mating queen to more than 1km. Because of their territorial consciousness, the population density of single queens is lower than that of many queens, and the density of anthills is 200/hectare. Multi-queen colony is established by 1 or several queens crawling to a new place, with two to hundreds of reproductive queens. This mode of transmission is very slow. Many queens have no territory, so the population density per unit area is 6 times higher than that of a single queen, exceeding 1000/hectare. Both ethnic groups can spread through running water. When the water rises, they form a ball and float on the water. They can live for several weeks until the water level drops or floats to the shore. In the natural reproduction of Solenopsis invicta, the mating and flight diffusion of breeding ants are more continuous and regular. Solenopsis invicta has no specific mating period (mating period), and new reproductive ants can be formed in mature ant nests all year round. Female ants and male ants fly in the air about 90 ~ 300 meters high to mate and mate. After mating, the female ants fly about 3-5 kilometers, and find a place to build a new nest after landing. If the wind helps to fly, it can spread further.
The life cycle of Solenopsis invicta includes four stages: egg, larva, pupa and adult, and the cycle is * * * 8 ~ 10 week. The queen lays eggs all her life. Worker ants are working females; The soldier ants are bigger and defend the ant colony. At some time every year, many species will produce winged males and queens and fly into the air to mate. The male ant died soon, and the fertilized queen built a new nest. Within 24 hours after mating, the queen bee lays eggs 10~ 15, and hatches on the 8th ~10 day. After the first batch of eggs hatch, the queen bee will lay 75~ 125 eggs. Generally, the larval stage is 6~ 12d, and the pupal stage is 9~ 16d. Most of the first workers were smaller. These worker ants dig ant paths, find food for queens and newborn larvae, and start to build ant mounds. Within a month, larger worker ants were produced, and the scale of ant mound was expanded. After 6 months, the population grew to thousands of worker ants, and anthills appeared in soil or lawn. Solenopsis invicta is a social insect. There are about 500,000 to 500,000 red imported fire ants in each mature nest. Red imported fire ants include worker ants in charge of work, soldier ants in charge of defense and fighting, and reproductive ants in charge of breeding offspring. Reproductive ants include queens and winged females and males in ant nests. An ant nest includes 1 or several breeding queens, and other workers and soldiers cannot breed.
The life span of Solenopsis invicta is related to its size. Generally, the life span of a coolie is 30-60 days, that of an intermediate worker is 60-90 days, and that of a major worker is 90- 180 days. The life span of queen ants is about 2 ~ 6 years. It takes about 22 ~ 38 days for Solenopsis invicta to become an adult from egg to emergence. Queen bees can lay up to 800 eggs a day (according to IUCN data, another paper called it 1500), and several queen bees can lay 2,000 ~ 3,000 eggs a day. When there is enough food, the amount of eggs laid can reach the maximum. There are 240,000 workers in a mature nest, and 80,000 workers in a typical nest. Solenopsis invicta is omnivorous and has strong foraging ability. Its food includes 149 seeds of wild flowers and plants, 57 crops, insects and other arthropods, invertebrates, vertebrates, plants and carrion. They eat aphids and scale insects on plants. The survival and development of Solenopsis invicta population need a lot of sugar, and foods such as honey, sugar, protein and fat are also in the recipes of Solenopsis invicta. Solenopsis invicta larvae only eat liquid food before a certain age, and then can digest solid food. Worker ants bring solid food rich in protein and put it in front of the larvae' mouths. Larvae secrete digestive enzymes to decompose solid food and ruminate for worker ants. The queens feed on some digested protein to maintain their spawning needs. As long as there is enough food, the queen can give full play to the efficiency of laying eggs.
Generally, worker ants are most active in foraging during the daytime in cool season or in the evening and night in hot period. Foraging ants leave their nests and feed through horizontal ant paths under the surface. The foraging ant road of a large ant nest can extend to tens of meters away from the ant grave, and there is an opening leading to the ground along the road.
