Laboratory medicine, also known as medical laboratory diagnostics, is a clinical department on an equal footing with clinical internal medicine and surgery. Laboratory medicine is a medical discipline, which aims at diagnosing, preventing, treating human diseases or evaluating human health, conducting biology, microbiology, serology, chemistry, hematology immunology, biophysics, cytology, pathology and other tests on materials from human body, and providing consulting services within the scope of its examination, including interpretation of results and suggestions for further appropriate examination.
Medical examination is "specimen-centered and experimental data-oriented". Laboratory medicine is patient-centered and aims to diagnose and treat diseases.
