Bodhi is treeless, neither bright nor beautiful ... What does this poem mean?

I think, to understand the meaning of this sentence, you have to know some Buddhist knowledge first. During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, Zen Buddhism spread to Hong Ren, the fifth ancestor, with more than 500 disciples. As the years passed, Master Hong Ren grew old. He wanted to find an heir among his disciples, so he told his disciples that everyone should make a poem (a poem with Zen meaning) and pass it on to whoever did it well. He has a disciple named Shen Xiu, who is considered as the successor. He wrote a poem on the temple wall, "Be a bodhi tree, and your heart is a platform." . Wipe frequently, and don't create dust. "Hirohito did not comment after seeing it. Because he knew that Shen Xiu had not had an epiphany. At this time, someone passed the beautiful melody to the ear of monk Huineng in the mill. Huineng feels wrong, because he doesn't understand culture and can't write, so let others write a melody next to the beautiful melody. " Bodhi has no trees, the mirror is not a stage, and there is nothing. How can it make dust? "Hong Ren after seeing this melody. Then he hit Huineng on the head three times and left. At this time, only Huineng understood the meaning of the Five Ancestors, so he came to Hongren's meditation room in the middle of the night, where Hongren explained to him one of the most important Buddhist classics, the Diamond Sutra, and handed it to him. Then, in order to prevent the honey trap from hurting Huineng, Huineng was allowed to escape overnight. So Huineng went south overnight, lived in seclusion 10, and passed on Zen in Shaolin Temple in Putian. This poem by Shen Xiu represents the artistic conception of Hinayana Buddhism. To be a bodhi tree means that our bodies should be like bodhi trees, keep correct posture and constantly improve their practice. The heart is like a mirror, comparing our heart to a mirror. If the dust is sticky, it is not clear. Wipe frequently, and don't create dust. Literally, the mirror table should be wiped frequently to avoid being contaminated with dust. This means that we must keep practicing hard and keep a peaceful mind in order to restore our true feelings and achieve correct results. And "Bodhi has no trees, and it is not Taiwan in the mirror. There is nothing, so there is no dust. "It highlights the artistic conception of Mahayana Buddhism. Bodhi originally refers to the bodhi tree. Bodhi has no trees, which denies the tangible essence of bodhi trees. Spiegel is not a stage, and it also denies the tangible essence of Spiegel. These two sentences mean that Bodhi is in your heart, and the mirror is just your heart. The bodhi tree and the mirror platform were originally empty. Nothing. Where did the dust come from? This means that since everything is empty, how can we start with dust? Dust is empty! The artistic conception of this poem is that everything is empty, even the original heart and nature of Hinayana are empty. These two poems became a much-told story in the history of Buddhism. Later generations generally believe that Huineng's poetry has a higher understanding and a deeper realm. From the realm, it feels like this, but Huineng's poems give people an ethereal feeling, so empty that people can't touch the edge. Beautiful poems reflect real practice and give people a more down-to-earth feeling. Maybe this is the difference between Hinayana and Mahayana.
