Zhai She is the place where students of Yuelu Academy study and stay. The name of "teaching fast" comes from the Book of Rites: "After the founding of the People's Republic of China, residents put teaching first"; The name of "Semi-learning Zhai" comes from the book "Notes on Shangshu": "Learning only by teaching", which means that teaching and learning complement each other. The names "fast teaching" and "fast learning" just reflect the dialectical relationship between teaching and learning.
Since the teaching and semi-study camp is a place where students study and stay, it is natural to hang a pair of couplets to show their vigilance. The couplet hanging at the entrance of the teaching den is: diligence and fun, thinking of swans; Apply what you have learned, don't pay for your cleverness.
There is a couplet in Yanzi Confucian Temple, which is called the "most domineering" of Yuelu Academy: my southern road was originally a vein of Lianxi; The River of No Return is nothing more than the aftermath of Hunan water. In the couplets, Tao refers to Neo-Confucianism, Lianxi refers to Zhou Dunyi, the founder of Neo-Confucianism, Dajiang refers to the Yangtze River and Xiangshui refers to Xiangjiang River.
This couplet was written by Wang Kaiyun, a scholar in the late Qing Dynasty. Wang Kaiyun, a native of Xiangtan, Hunan, once gave lectures at Chengnan Academy in Changsha, Hunan. This person was Zeng Guofan's staff, but he was arrogant and never became an official. It is said that Wang Kaiyun once gave lectures in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. In order to test his talent, local officials deliberately asked him about his knowledge genre and source. Wang Kaiyun blurted out: "I came to the south because it is a vein of Lianxi;" "The River of No Return" is nothing more than the aftermath of Hunan water. " .
Coincidentally, when Wang Kaiyun wrote this couplet, it was the heyday of Xiang Army, which occupied an important position in the political structure at that time. Therefore, although this couplet has a strong tone, it also appropriately shows the important influence and responsibility of Hunan people and Huxiang culture on modern China.
