The Department of Environmental Engineering of University of Science and Technology Beijing was formed in 1996 by the merger of the original teaching and research section of mineral processing engineering, the teaching and research section of safety technology and engineering and some teachers of geology department. The mineral processing laboratory, the predecessor of the department, was established in 1952 and is a key discipline at the ministerial level. In recent years, our department has introduced high-level talents from home and abroad, and has formed a teaching and scientific research collective with strong youth, reasonable knowledge structure, team spirit and innovative consciousness.

The Department of Environmental Engineering of University of Science and Technology Beijing has 35 teachers and 12 professors, including 8 doctoral supervisors, 12 associate professors and 11 lecturers. Among the teachers, 29 have doctoral degrees (78.4%) and 6 have master's degrees. In addition, there are 3 academicians of China Academy of Sciences and Academy of Engineering, and 4 famous scholars at home and abroad are part-time tutors. It has established close academic exchanges and cooperative relations with well-known universities in German, Japanese, Korean and other countries and China and Taiwan Province, and has become an international high-level talent training base.

At present, there is one winner of the Cross-century Outstanding Talents Fund of the Ministry of Education, one winner of the Outstanding Young Teachers Fund of the Ministry of Education, one winner of the Beijing Outstanding Young Backbone Teacher and one winner of the Beijing Science and Technology Rising Star Training Program, two winners of the special allowance for experts from the State Council, and more than 1 teachers with study and work experience in foreign universities.

The Department of Environmental Engineering of University of Science and Technology Beijing now has two undergraduate majors, namely, environmental engineering and safety technology and engineering, and six master programs, namely, environmental engineering, environmental science, municipal engineering, biochemical engineering, safety technology and engineering and mineral processing engineering, among which safety technology and engineering are the key disciplines in Beijing. There are three doctoral programs in environmental engineering, safety technology and engineering and mineral processing engineering. Since the Department of Environment began to recruit environmental engineering undergraduates in 1998, it has trained 12 postdoctoral students, 98 doctors and 162 masters. At present, there are about 48 undergraduates, 39 postgraduates and nearly 15 doctors. In addition, there are two master's programs in mining engineering and environmental engineering.

In recent five years, this discipline has completed nearly 15 projects such as the National 863 Program and the National Natural Science Foundation, and hundreds of provincial and ministerial scientific research projects and enterprise cooperation projects. Won 1 provincial and ministerial level special prize for scientific and technological progress, 2 first prizes, 4 second prizes and 5 third prizes. He has published more than 68 academic papers, among which more than 2 papers (including papers by non-communication authors) have been included by SCI, EI and ISTP, and 16 monographs have been published, and 1 translation has been made, and more than 2 invention patents have been obtained. At present, he has presided over 13 national-level projects such as National 863 and 973, 1 national natural science funds, 1 national defense science and technology commission project and more than 2 provincial-level projects.

This subject advocates practice in teaching and has achieved remarkable results. He has won one first prize of national teaching achievement in higher education, one first prize of Beijing Education and Teaching Achievement Award (higher education) and many school-level teaching achievement awards, and has published many teaching papers and 16 teaching materials (teaching books). Among them, "Recycling Solid Waste" was rated as a top-quality textbook in Beijing.

in recent ten years, this discipline has carried out a series of fruitful research and development on the recycling of industrial waste residue and mine tailings, the treatment and reuse of industrial waste water, the treatment and disposal of municipal sewage sludge, the source control of coal-fired pollutants and flue gas desulfurization, and the dust removal and gas protection of factories and mines, which has formed the research characteristics of Beijing University of Science and Technology. Many technologies have reached the international advanced level, creating huge economic and environmental benefits for enterprises, and making important contributions to solving environmental protection problems and sustainable development in metallurgical, electric power, mining, chemical and other industries.
