The criteria of "major crime", "major case" and "major criminal suspect" generally refer to the situation that the criminal suspect or defendant may be sentenced to life imprisonment or more, or the case has a significant impact in this province, autonomous region, municipality directly under the Central Government or the whole country. Those who have rendered meritorious service may be given a lighter or mitigated punishment; Those who have made significant meritorious service may be mitigated or exempted from punishment.
