Facing the international academic frontier, Chen Yan has been engaged in the systematic research of mobile institutions. He put forward a new design method of deployable mechanism system-mosaic method for the first time in the world, and invented a variety of deployable units based on three-dimensional mechanisms to build large deployable structures in space. Three new types of closed-chain spatial over-constrained mechanisms were invented, and a special spatial mechanism with multiple branches and multiple motion paths was discovered for the first time. Successfully established a new frontier interdisciplinary research field with movable structure as the core, spanning deployable structure, mechanism and robotics, engineering origami structure and other disciplines. Based on the kinematics and mechanics of mechanism, the research results are extended to the fields of light environmental protection materials, medical microstructures, movable buildings and so on, with aerospace institutions and robots as application research platforms. My research work has given new vitality to the ancient discipline of mechanism, and achieved important research results in the theoretical and engineering applications of deployable structures and reconfigurable mechanisms.

Chen Yan has published more than 20 international journal articles (20 articles were retrieved by SCI), including first-class journal articles, such as The Royal Magazine, which has a history of more than 350 years. Papers of international core academic conferences 19; He wrote two English academic monographs on this research; Has 1 international invention patents. During his nearly 7-year tenure at Nanyang Technological University in Singapore, the applicant presided over and completed 4 independent projects and 2 cooperative projects with a total fund of 7.6 million RMB. For two consecutive years, she has won three international science and technology awards, including the Global Opportunity Fund of the British Foreign Office, the UK-Singapore Science Cooperation Award, and the Amelia earhart Scholarship for the Best Female Doctor in Global Aviation Science awarded by Zonta International (only 35 people in the world win prizes every year). At the same time, he won the first prize of Singapore Science and Engineering Expo and other four international science and technology exhibition awards, and was invited to participate in the 2006 Royal Buckingham Palace Science Day Exhibition and the 2005 Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition. He also won the Best Enlightenment Tutor Award from Nanyang Technological University in Singapore twice.
