Precautions for Salmon Calcitonin Nasal Spray

Patients who use this product for a long time may develop antibodies to calcitonin. However, it usually does not affect clinical efficacy. The escape phenomenon sometimes seen with long-term treatment may be due to saturation of the binding site, which is apparently not related to antibody production. After treatment is discontinued, the patient's therapeutic response to this product may resume. Patients with chronic rhinitis should undergo regular examinations, because inflammation of the nasal mucosa can increase the body's absorption of this product. Because salmon calcitonin is a polypeptide, systemic allergic reactions are possible. There have been individual reports of anaphylactic shock in patients using this product. Patients suspected of being allergic to this product should use diluted sterile salmon calcitonin injection for a skin test before taking the drug. This product should be kept out of the reach of children. Effects on Ability to Drive and Use Machinery The effects of this product on the ability to drive and use machinery have not been studied. This product may cause fatigue, dizziness, and visual impairment. (see Adverse Reactions), which may affect the patient's ability to respond. Patients must be informed that the above reactions may occur and that they must not drive or operate machinery in this case.
