UEFA Europe's Best Player was created in 2011.
UEFA Europe's Best Player (English name from 2010-11 to 2015-16 season: UEFA Best Player in Europe Award, English name after 2016-17 season: UEFA Men's Player of the Year Award).
This award is a football award created by the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) and the European Sports Media (ESM) in 2011, replacing the original UEFA Club Footballer of the Year.
It is intended to replace the French Ballon d'Or (Ballon d'Or), which has been merged with the FIFA World Player of the Year to form the FIFA Ballon d'Or. European Footballer of the Year), honoring the players who played for European clubs with the best performance in the previous season.

There is no restriction on nationality. Players are only required to play for clubs affiliated with UEFA member countries. Players' domestic, international, club and national team competitions will be taken into account.
Specific voting rules: The jury will include sports journalists from 53 European countries. Each reporter will provide a list of the three best players in order of ranking. The player with the first choice will get 5 points. The player with the second choice gets 3 points and the player with the third choice gets 1 point.

1. The votes of the coach and captain of each national team account for 25% of the votes respectively.
