The protection period of an Australian invention patent is 20 years from the date of application. The Australian patent law defines invention as: "Any new product or method created, or an improvement on a known product or method." An invention applying for a patent must possess "three properties": novelty, creativity, and practicality.
Australian invention patent applications are similar to those in my country. After the application is submitted, the Australian Patent Office first conducts a formal review of the application. It will then be published eighteen months from the filing date (or priority date).
