Wang Xuan was born in 1937 in Wuxi, Jiangsu. He is the founder and technical director of laser phototypesetting system for Chinese characters. The laser phototypesetting system of Chinese characters developed by the scientific research group led by him laid the foundation for the computerization of the whole process of press and publication, and was praised as "the second invention of Chinese character printing".

Wang Xuan is an academician of China Academy of Sciences and China Academy of Engineering. He used to be the vice chairman of the 11th Central Committee of Jiu San Society, the vice chairman of the 10th CPPCC, the director of Peking University Institute of Computer Science and Technology, the director of the State Key Laboratory of Word Information Processing, the director of the National Engineering Research Center of Electronic Publishing New Technology, the director of Peking University Founder Group and the chief scientific adviser of Founder Holdings Limited.
