Google eliminates prejudice and discrimination brought by artificial intelligence technology through the "PAIR" project.

Although artificial intelligence has become the mainstream development technology in the current market and is expected to bring new development opportunities, many people are also worried that it may lead to more hidden concerns, such as more inequality and prejudice. Therefore, Google announced earlier that it would launch an artificial intelligence research project called "People +AI Research", hoping to eliminate unnecessary prejudice in the development of artificial intelligence technology.

From Google's point of view, although artificial intelligence can promote greater development opportunities, it may also lead to brand-new non-platform, prejudice or discrimination. Therefore, through the "PAIR" project, we will design an artificial intelligence algorithm and learning framework, and study how to use artificial intelligence technology to make the application of artificial intelligence technology easier to understand and use, and ensure equal application.

Just as in the past, face recognition technology could not judge the appearance of black people normally because of design defects, which led to inequality or discrimination, Google believes that in the future, as artificial intelligence becomes the key technology of many services and applications, it should ensure that such technologies are unbiased and discriminatory, and all people can use them equally, and the results of use will not constitute any inequality. Therefore, in the "PAIR" project, the design, structure and application of various artificial intelligence technologies will be investigated, and two open source tools, FacetsOverview and FacetsDive, will be used to confirm whether the artificial intelligence technology involves prejudice.

Although the "PAIR" project is currently only operated by 12 Google employees, it will interact deeply with all Google's artificial intelligence technology services and R&D departments and help Google ensure that its service content does not contain any discrimination.
