Good news for the disabled: an electric wheelchair that can climb stairs and get on the bus

For people with physical disabilities, living a free life like normal people can only be elusive. If you want to travel anytime, anywhere, go down the stairs or take the bus, don’t even think about it without the help of other people. However, someone has now developed a wheelchair. With it, you can travel like a normal person. Are you looking forward to it?

Recently, five design masters from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich Students, *** co-developed an electric wheelchair that can automatically balance and can go up and down stairs.

Scewo uses hard rubber tracks to move up and down stairs.

In addition, it can provide users with a better perspective and can see the situation under their feet when going down the stairs, so that no accidents occur.

?Scewo can bring people a completely different experience, and even make people forget their disabilities. ?said team leader Bernhard Winter.

Scewo is very agile to use, like driving a car, and can move freely even in small spaces.

At the same time, it can also eliminate some obstacles in life, such as taking transportation without any effort, whether it is a bus or a train. There is no problem going up the stairs and entering the restaurant, allowing people with disabilities to get out in a more elegant way.

The Scewo wheelchair provides a safe and comfortable transition and has 4 operating modes: stair, safety, elevated and crawler modes. The safety mode is used for normal walking on weekdays and has the same functions as an ordinary electric wheelchair.

Although Scewo only has two wheels to assist driving, through its own precision sensors and three gyroscopes, it can quickly and automatically find balance even while driving. It won't appear to be shaking either.

After the raising mode is activated, Scewo will rise vertically, making it easier for users to reach high objects or make more comfortable eye contact with standing objects. Or look at the beautiful scenery beyond.

Using the stair mode, the user only needs to press the button and wait for Scewo to pop up the tracks and automatically climb the stairs.

When encountering obstacles such as stairs, select the climbing mode through the panel. The wheelchair will measure through the built-in sensors and cameras, and automatically reverse to the bottom of the stairs. The front end of the crawler track under the chair will slope downward to the level ground.

At this time, the wheels on both sides will become auxiliary driving and replaced by crawler driving.

In order to ensure the stability during climbing, Scewo will continuously change its center of gravity according to the rising angle of the wheelchair, so that the seat will always be in a horizontal position. Move at one step's speed.

When the sensor detects the apex of the stairs, Scewo will automatically lower the stabilizing wheels to prevent the wheelchair from flipping over, and will fold the stabilizing wheels until the whole body is safely on a level ground.

At present, this Scewo electric balance wheelchair is only in a prototype development stage.
