General situation of Guilin University of Technology Guilin University of Technology is a university funded by the central and local governments and mainly managed by Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. The school originated from Guilin Geological School, which was established by the former Guangxi Ministry of Heavy Industry 1956. After five changes of ownership and ten changes of school name, it was renamed Guilin Institute of Metallurgical Geology on 1978, Guilin Institute of Technology on 1993, and Guilin University of Technology in 2009. Qu Jiuhui, academician of China Academy of Engineering, winner of National Outstanding Youth Fund, vice chairman of China Environmental Protection Federation, vice chairman of China Society of Environmental Sciences, vice chairman of China Sustainable Development Research Association and member of National Environmental Advisory Committee, served as honorary president of the school.
