How long is the classification and protection period of Malaysian patents?

There are three types of patents in Malaysia: invention patents, utility model patents and industrial design patents. According to the Patent Law 1983, both invention patents and utility model patents in Malaysia adopt the substantive examination system. The protection period of the invention patent is 20 years, counting from the date of application; The validity period of the utility model is 10 year, counting from the date of application; The industrial design registration is valid for 5 years from the date of application, and can be renewed for 2 times after the expiration, each time for 5 years.
