China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine (CAS) belongs to the vice ministerial level. China Academy of Sciences was founded in 1955, formerly known as the Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine of the former Ministry of Health. 197 1 merged with Beijing College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and changed its name to China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine. When it celebrated its 50th anniversary in February 2005, it was renamed the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
China Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine is a comprehensive Chinese medicine research institution directly under state administration of traditional chinese medicine, focusing on scientific research of Chinese medicine and integrating scientific research, medical treatment and teaching. Tu Youyou, a lifelong researcher in this hospital, has made outstanding contributions to the discovery of artemisinin and its application in malaria treatment, and won the 20 15 and 10 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine respectively.
