Where is the Sansui bamboo ware?

When it comes to "Duck Town", most people know that it refers to Sansui County in southeastern Guizhou. However, "Hometown of Bamboo Weaving Art" is another title of Sansui County in Qiandongnan Prefecture, and I am afraid there are even fewer people who know it.

In fact, the Department of Culture of Guizhou Province has nicknamed Sansui County "the hometown of bamboo weaving art", which is not excessive, but worthy of the name. As long as you pass by the bus station in Sansui County, you will feast your eyes on all kinds of bamboo products.

The fertile land in Sansui County is conducive to the growth of bamboo, which is rich in different kinds of bamboo such as Phyllostachys pubescens, Phyllostachys pubescens, Black Bamboo, White Bamboo, Mianzhu and Dianthus. The area around Fengpo, which is 0/2km away from the county seat/kloc-0, is known as the "10,000 mu bamboo sea". Last year, Shuicheng vigorously developed bamboo scaffolding for greenhouse vegetables, which was purchased and transported from here. It has a long history that folk craftsmen who live and multiply in this hot land make use of the unique natural resources here to vigorously develop bamboo weaving. During the Guangxu period of Qing Dynasty, the hats of Wazhai Village in Sansui County sold well in Hunan, and Hongjiang in Hunan became a famous hat transfer station. In the 27th year of the Republic of China (1938), the Guizhou provincial government ordered Sansui County to present a hat and a beautiful basket to the handicraft exposition. In 1959, 24 newly refined hats were selected from Wazhai and sent to Beijing as a national day gift for 10. During the period of 1974, Sansui Li Dou and Messi Basket participated in the Canton Fair as Guizhou ethnic handicrafts, which aroused the interest of foreign businessmen and reached an order deal with foreign businessmen in Thailand and Singapore on the spot.

There are many kinds of sansui bamboo wares. From the shape, there are square, round, oval and trumpet; From the usage point of view, there are lifting, carrying, picking and lifting; From the functional point of view, there are rice bowls, vegetables and food, rice drying, pens, fish catching, shelter from the rain and birds. According to the characteristics of various styles of bamboo utensils, the bamboo sticks are broken in different ways. The bamboo pole of the hat is very thin, so it must be cut evenly; Bamboo pieces with cold back should be removed, scraped and dyed; The straw of the dustpan is broken and hard, and the weaving is more casual; In short, those who hold fine things and decorate them are fine and smooth, and their workmanship is very particular; Whoever holds something heavy will be hard and work will be more casual.

The materials used for weaving bamboo wares are more particular. The hat is very delicate and should be made of finger-sized bamboo; The mat is soft and wide, and must be woven with bamboo, with a thick glass mouth; The drying mat is flat, and the bamboo strips should be wide and flat, so choose bamboo with large branches and hard texture; When the reed mouth is round, it must be edged with Mianzhu; The rice basket is thin and hard, so white bamboo or golden bamboo should be used; The dustpan should be hard and woven with spotted bamboo.

With the improvement of people's living standards, Sansui bamboo ware has not only stayed in practical use, but also moved towards appreciation and decoration. It is nothing new to dye bamboo sticks and weave various patterns and auspicious words on bamboo utensils. Now it is woven with plastic packaging skin, which not only enhances the fastness of bamboo products, but also dazzles people.

More interestingly, Sansui Bamboo has been put on the stage with the actors from what they are holding. The "basket dance", "cool back dance" and "hat dance" choreographed by the directors with bamboo utensils are quite local ethnic characteristics!

Based on the principle that the size of Sansui bamboo ware changes with use and the shape is suitable and convenient, it is well-made and well-known, and is listed as an intangible cultural heritage in Guizhou Province. No wonder, the distant guests who have been to Sansui said with emotion, "It will be a lifelong regret for me to go home without Sansui's bamboo utensils!"
