Remarkable achievements have been made in the construction of scientific research bases and platforms. The School of Medicine has 1 major national science and technology infrastructure (National Major Science and Technology Infrastructure for Translational Medicine (Shanghai) Project), 2 national key laboratories, 1 national engineering research center, 3 key laboratories of the Ministry of Education, and 1 Ministry of Education Engineering research center, 4 National Health Commission key laboratories, 24 Shanghai key laboratories and 5 Shanghai engineering centers. The Collaborative Innovation Center for Translational Medicine, a knowledge service platform for Shanghai universities, has initially achieved the goal of building a positive interaction and transformation platform between industry, academia and research. In 2014, it was listed as the Shanghai Collaborative Innovation Center for construction. In 2015, we jointly built a "Brain Disease Clinical Research Center" with the Institute of Neuroscience of the Chinese Academy of Sciences to explore and practice a new model of scientific research organization in which institutes collaborate in the same city and jointly tackle key problems. In 2018, the medical school system received 200 authorized patents.
The School of Medicine actively participates in the reform of the national medical and health system, and its affiliated hospitals continue to improve their diagnostic and treatment levels and medical and health service capabilities. Our hospital currently has 13 affiliated hospitals, including 8 general hospitals and 5 specialized affiliated hospitals. It has 3 national clinical medical research centers, 1 national children's medical center (first established), and 74 national key clinical specialties (excluding traditional Chinese medicine), accounting for 54% of the total number of national key clinical specialties in Shanghai. There are 12 clinical medical centers in the city and 16 "top priority" clinical medical centers in Shanghai. In 2018, the number of open beds in affiliated hospitals was 19,686, with 35.3161 million outpatient and emergency visits, 1.0462 million discharges, and 669,500 inpatient surgeries. At present, the number of surgeries performed by affiliated hospitals accounts for 1/3 of the city, and the number of difficult and complicated diseases accounts for 1/2 of the city. With its strong comprehensive strength, the School of Medicine has made important contributions to the medical and health care in Shanghai and even the country, and has won widespread praise from society.
The School of Medicine actively explores new strategies for regional collaborative construction of medical and health services, cooperates with the Changning District Government to build Shanghai Tongren Hospital, and established the Hongqiao International Medical Research Institute in 2014, striving to achieve Promote regional medical development and discipline connotation construction in multiple dimensions. In 2011, the China Hospital Development Research Institute of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was established to vigorously carry out hospital management policy research and have a certain influence in the field of domestic hospital management.
