Garland is very interested in machines and shooting, so the mixture of these two interests naturally made him interested in designing guns, which eventually led to his career change in 19 17. When he was studying in new york, he learned that the US Army had issued a tender for designing a new light machine gun, so he began to design it. He got a research grant of $50 a week from another gun designer, john kay Vish, which was not a small sum at that time (Note: Among other materials, Garland showed Hudson Ma Keqin this sample gun, and Ma Keqin recommended it to the naval consulting company. Government officials think that Garland's gun design is better, and they are willing to pay Garland $35 a week, plus Kevis 15, so Garland always works every week. The light machine gun sample gun designed by Garland (according to the current point of view, it is actually a fully automatic rifle) was completed in June of 19 18 and was selected by the US War Department. However, when applying for a patent, Kewish and Garland argued about who was the founder of the weapon, and finally Garland won, but Kewish always accused Garland of cheating him (after 18, when M 1 rifle was adopted, Kewish ran out and said Garland cheated some of his due honors).
