Developed countries and regions have paid attention to and used patent maps for a long time, among which Japan has the deepest research degree and the widest application scope. Japan began to study patent maps in the 1960s. 1968, Japan Patent Office published the first patent map in Japan, which can show the expansion mode of technical functions and applications, and find out the relationship between them through the changes of patents over time. Subsequently, the application of patent map gradually expanded to the industrial field. In order to develop the scientific and technological strategy of enterprises, explore new business opportunities and further promote the utilization of patent information, in the past twenty years, the Japanese government has collected and analyzed patent information in many technical fields, made patent maps and put these maps online for free. Only a few enterprises in China use patent maps to serve them, and one of the most important factors is that most enterprises don't understand patent maps.
