What is the development process of sailing?

Windsurfing appeared in the late 1960s. At that time, surfers all over the world were trying to add sails to their surfboards. In 1967, an elongated surfboard equipped with a sail that could rotate freely appeared in the United States, marking the initial formation of windsurfing. According to reports, computer technician Hugh Vance from California, USA, came up with an ingenious idea. He modified the mast part of the sailboat, installed a universal adjustment device at the root of the mast, and then transplanted it to a small surf boat. On the board, the "wind surfboard" was born. After many repeated trials, we finally succeeded. In June 1970, Hugh Vance officially applied for a patent and named this equipment "Winter Seifer" (a type of windsurfing board). A surfboard is a surfing equipment that looks like a cuttlefish cover. It is as long as a person and dozens of centimeters wide. People can stand on it and slide on the water with the force of the waves. This sport has a long history in European and American countries, but since the power of surfboards comes from swells, it can only be played on water with large swells. And due to the limitations of venue conditions, the popularity of this sport has been affected. After the birth of windsurfing, it quickly made up for the shortcomings of surfing. Athletes stand on the board and use both hands to grasp the sail pole to control it. They can sail hundreds of nautical miles in the endless ocean and reach an astonishing speed of more than 50 kilometers per hour, so they are very popular among people.

The rapid development of windsurfing has attracted great attention from the International Speedboat Racing Federation (1YRV). In the spring of 1980, the organization held a meeting in London and formally submitted an application for windsurfing to be included in the Olympic Games. Subsequently, in July of the same year, the Olympic Committee approved and announced that windsurfing was officially listed as an Olympic sport and identified windsurfing as a new level of sailing. The 23rd Olympic Games held in Los Angeles in 1984 successfully held the first Olympic windsurfing competition and windsurfing exhibition competition.
